Just to give you a sense of how liberals think, this half twit compared gun lobbyists to nazis. Considering that a number of gun lobbyists are Jewish it would probably surprise them to learn that they are nazis. This my friends is what we are up against with the left and gun control. On a happier note, my AR-15 with two, 30 round clips and lots of ammo is in the mail. I look forward to using it responsibly and if necessary, to whack anyone that happens to make the mistake of breaking into my home. The dealer told me he has never seen anything like the sales they have had lately. I love the sound of patriotic Americans expressing their 2nd Amendment rights.

You have a tactical shotgun under your bed, a 45 nearby with a 10 ammo clip, and now an AK15 with 2 30 round clips. I think you need to move to a safer neighborhood. Wanna be my neighbor?????

And those are only the ones he told you about.  I am not going to give you a rundown of my personal defense arsenal but suffice it to say it is more than MM has published....repeat, published.  What do you carry?  What is under your bed?

What do you carry? VISA   What is under your bed? Porn  And yes, I do have a loaded rifle. My life is rather simple.

Pretty frank answers about yourself.  Especially the second.  Glad, though,  you think enough of yourself to have at least some protection.  Especially with heavily armed guys like MM roaming the roads around LM...jus kiddin.

I actually didn't have any plans to buy an AR-15 but I am not taking any chances. As for my neighborhood, it is lovely and very safe East Cobb but on the outside chance that some foolish criminal makes a fatal mistake and comes in uninvited he will be in for a rude awakening and untimely demise. Better safe than sorry I always say. Am actually excited to get the AR-15 and try it out at the range. Fun stuff. Oh and I live in Cobb because I don't want my tax dollars funding a corrupt, incompetent left wing Fulton county and city of Atlanta budget.

I have lived in the same old intown Atlanta neighborhood through 4 houses since 1973 and have never had a break-in or felt threatened in anyway.  Guess maybe the bad guys live in my neighborhood but do their work in MM's "safe" East Cobb enclave.  Our bedroom is on the 2d floor and the only thing we have under the bed is a rope ladder.  you see I am more concerned with real danger than the perceived danger all you gun nut paranoids are so concerned about.

It's an AR-15 and an AK-47, not an AK-15.  Ya gotta get with it, man, if you want to pretend to know what you're talking about

Any fire extinguishers in your home - and if so - have you ever used them?  I keep a fold-up shovel in our truck - never used - so I guess if I subscribe to the liberal viewpoint, I should leave it at home to improve my gas mileage.  I hope that I never have to defend my family/home/pet or myself; but if I have too - I am prepared.  I am NOT one of the idiots who is dependent on others (except my wife) to secure my loved ones and property.  I guess you will dial 911 and hope they are not too busy to be on scene within 10 seconds...

Archie, are you naturally such a mean spirited, nasty person or do I just bring this out in you?!?  If I were your neighbor I would put up a sign that says, I have lots of guns but my liberal neighbor next door only has a ladder.  We will let them decide which house they might break into.  But knowing what I know about you I am sure criminals drive by your place and decide there are more lucrative places to break into, especially when they see the old, battered hybrid in the driveway with save the whale and coexist bumper stickers.  But you have a nice day anyway......

One can easily see who wakes up with a sour taste in the mouth every day just by reading your posts. It is obvious that the thought of facing one more day with Obama in the White House means you start off everyday POd.  Sorry for your misfortune.

Fact is my immediate neighbors on both sides are actual real live "libtards" to the point of putting out Obama signs.  One even volunteers at the Hosea feed the hungry dinners every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Yes, one does drive a hybrid.  I drive a 9 year old Toyoto Camry because it is a darn good car so why change it.

I know the statistics...a gun in the house is many times as likely to kill or injure its owner, another family member, a family friend or an innocent stranger as it is to stop an intruder.  Thanks, but I will take my chances and continue to lead my very boring but happy existence as an extreme moderate.

BTW MM, is your East Cobb neighborhood one of those snooty gated communities, or do you still let the riff-raff like me "drive by"?

And while you are trying to find a source for your made up claim I recommend you look at the research about how many people are saved each year from violent crime by armed citizens. And you might also look at the number of people killed in auto accidents or children that drown in pools or are murdered with knives or blunt objects And while you are at it, look at crime rates in cities with strict gun control versus those with concealed carry laws. You are so remarkably ignorant of the facts it is mind boggling.

from ongoing research they were doing on gun death and injuries until it was shut down by the GOP congress at the insistence of the gun lobby early in the Bush years.

The fact that you (I do really think you are rather bright) could be so accepting of the talking points, skewed statistics and outright propaganda of every rightwing special interest group is simply mind boggling.

According to the CDC, the most common causes of death in people from the age of 15 up to 44 is motor vehicle accidents, poisoning (alcohol/drugs), suicide, and violence.
In the name of safety, it is obvious that these people should not be allowed to own guns or knives, operate vehicles, have access to drugs or alcohol, and should not participate in any violent sports.
If it can save only one life, it will be worth it. We are doing it for the children.
Stamp it Executive Order.

What is mind boggling is not only your ignorance but your inability to be taught.  Lott's book is well researched, accurate and damning of your ridiculous position on gun control.  It doesn't work Archie and many more people's lives are saved by guns than are accidentally taken.  Try to learn Archie....it will change your life.

Your statement about more lives being affirmatively saved by guns than accidentally or unintentionally taken by guns is simply not correct.  If the book says otherwise he needs to take another look at his sources.  Not a bad idea for you and your followers too MM.

Sorry, I just put more faith in the CDC (even if it is a government agency) than an avowed opponent of any attempt to bring sanity to the gun debate.

Tell me MM, do you agree with the NRA's refusal to support stopping gun sales to people on the terrorist watch list?

Archie, I have read the book, you have not. He meticulously references his sources which are almost entirely from government agencies and I am not going to bother with you on this any more.  You simply do not want to believe the truth because you would prefer living a lie.  I just wish you would move to Chicago so you could personally experience the danger of being in a gun free zone instead of crowing about how safe you are because of people like me that own guns and help prevent crime.  Move to the people's paradise Archie.......there will be lots of fellow travelers in left wing nuttery that you can join cowering in their homes out of fear of criminals who for some reason don't seem to let the gun control laws impact the weapons they carry.

As for the comment about the NRA's stance this is yet another prime example of left wing nonsense.  This is the typical red herring argument that is so hopelessly stupid I can't believe I am even answering it.  I can only see it now, Muhammad Achmed the terrorist who is on the watch list violates federal laws by sneaking into the U.S., he then joins his terror cell and they spend hours, days, weeks secretly planning the mass murder of the infidels. They agree on their nefarious plan and send old Muhammed Achmed the terrorist out there to buy some guns from a law abiding citizen. Said John Q. Citizen says, sorry old Muhammed Achmed but I need to do a background check.  Muhammed shakes his head sadly and returns to his terror cell with the bad news.  No guns guys, I had to go through a background check and I am on the watch list.  They all shake their heads, and depressed, decide to disband and head back to the middle east thwarted by a background check.  A life has been saved!!!!  Praise the good Lord for background checks!!  I mean no one that is contemplating mass murder would either steal or illegally buy a gun would they?!?!?  Inconceivable!!  The answer is so simple!!

Can you even see how inane you are for even raising this issue in the way it has been raised?  It is so mind bogglingly stupid I have to shake my head in amazement.  By the way, NRA opposes forcing individuals that want to sell a gun to have to perform background checks. They also have serious and entirely understandable concerns about the accuracy of these terror watch lists as a goodly number of honest, law abiding citizens either have been mistakenly put on the list or have the exact same name as someone on the list.

But here's some questions for you Archibald, should someone with the same name as a person on the list be prevented from buying a gun?  Should someone who is mistakenly placed on the list be prevented?  And for the grand finale, do you really believe some terrorist is going to let background checks get in the way of them getting the weapon they want?

There are many more offenses stopped because the intending victim was armed than any agency can report because they never know about it.  I could cite several personable anecdotes but will only use one.  This was last year and my nephews wife was on her way to the hospital, Emory I think but not absolutely sure and it doesn't matter anyway, to see my Sister, her mother-in-law.  She was relying on GPS for directions and realized to late to change her route and avoid going right through some very rough neighborhoods.  She, not being the 'typical' victim, took her gun out of her purse and laid it on the seat.  She knew she should not be driving a Porsche through those streets.  Sure enough she got caught at a red light once she stopped thugs came at her from all sides.  One tried to get her door open but realizing it was locked drew back some type of club to smash the glass when he saw her with the pistol ready to fire. The punk thug yelled 'she gotta gun' and they all ran back into the slums they had come from.

She was very upset to say the least, but would not have hesitated one second to shoot if they had managed to gain entry to her car.  This was never reported to any LEO or agency.  She just sped away and ran a couple of lights to get the hell outta there.  She laughs about it now because it was  kinda difficult to drive, switch gears, and hold onto the weapon at the same time, but she was not gonna put it down till she was safe at home.

Now did her being armed save her life?  We will never know that answer.  But did the weapon stop a violent assault?  Absolutely!!  As I said above, I know of a couple of other instances throughout my life where the weapon being brandished stopped or  prevented a felonious assault on persons and/or property.

The whole point is, the statistics have to be taken for just what they are, statistics and not absolute reality.  I guarantee any number you see anywhere about guns preventing crime is only a small percentage of the times it actually happens.

Archie: So much for your faith in CDC.  See below for yet another example of agenda laden so-called research that gave us things like AGW.  But what am I saying?  Of course you trust the CDC, they are going to give you the answer you want regardless of the facts.  Guns and disease.......hmmmm......only the government could consider a gun a disease.....well, and left wing nuts as well.

Oh, and interestingly enough, more people are killed by doctors each year than by gun accidents which in itself is amazing considering there are only 120,000 or so doctors and tens of millions of gun owners.  And by the way, that list comes from the Journal of the American Medical Association.

It was only 15 years ago that Congress cut off federal funding for the Centers for Disease Control's gun research. Top CDC officials such as Patrick O'Carroll, M.D., had said things like, 'We're going to systematically build a case that owning firearms causes deaths. We're doing the most we can do, given the political realities.'" There is reason to fear that the CDC would once again politicize their research or expand exclusionary mental illness to prohibit firearm ownership for millions of Americans.
