Now available at Wal-Mart. Straight Talk is the carrier (Verizon CDMA network). I think $45/mo unlimited if its like the rest of ST's phones.

I highly recommend Straight Talk.  After my last ordeal with ATT cellular I vowed to never have a contract phone at all.  I have been happier with both function and customer service than with any other carrier, and I have had them all through the years.

The issue is the big carriers replace customer service with a contract which benefits them and to hell with customer service because they charge you to drop them.  The only issue I have had with the service was a week in Bowling Green KY when I lost service.  I thought it was a mechanical issue and contacted them via hard line.  They apologized because they didn't have a tower to service where I was staying, but added a week onto my service for the week I was loosing being out of service area.

I realized I needed to stress that all I do is talk and text with an occasional picture text.  I do not use smartphones or apps.  Me and Siri would NOT get along well with each other I can assure you...lol.

I don't have the Apple phone. Apple phones 5 & 4 they run ~$600 & 400's. I can recommend Straight Talk. It's owned by Carlos Slim (owns Telephonos de Mexico). ST runs on the Verizon & ATT networks. I can't tell the difference in ST and Verizon- same coverage, voices & protocol on voicemail.

If you want Verizon you have to make sure you get a CDMA architecture phone. The others are ATT. Apple phones run on the Verizon network for ST. For regular phones (and probably the Apple phone) it's $30 for 1000 minutes TT & I or $45 for unlimited. Check with Wal-Mart to verify that  & $$$.

I just checked the Walmart site $650-750 for the i-5 depending on the memory ($449 for the i-4) , but unlimited everything for $45 per month on straight talk. If you run the numbers, it's definitely less expensive over 2 years even with the upfront cost (even more so if you stream a lot of data). I'll be looking into this when my contract is up this spring.

One thing you might want to consider is Wal-Mart sometimes does some weird things with phones...might use up their allocation of the phones (?). Not saying they will with the Iphone but I have run into this sort of oddball thing with them.

If you remember Ric, I changed to Straight Talk on your recommendation several months ago. I have been very pleased with the basic service on Verizon towers. I found it interesting that ST stopped offering AT&T service in the lake area since the service with ATT is so poor. After many years of living on the cell phone, I have enjoyed the lack of use and don't plan to jump at the iPhone. Just spent the weekend watching 7 g-kids text away the weekend--yuk. iPad keeps me busy though!

Our cellular plan with AT&T included a 25% retired employee discount, and we still had to switch to Verizon to even make a phone call at the lake,, in our area of the lake---Parker Creek. Verizon works well with voice and data.
My sister has Straight Talk from Walmart. Her service at the lake is at least equal to Verizon, but at $45 a month with no contract???? Maybe I'll wait for that $600 Superphone of today to slide to maybe $99 next year and sign up with ST?? If not before.

PagePlus Cellular

They use the Verizon backbone. I pay $37.95 total for Unlimited Talk & Text and 200 Mb of Internet.

No Taxes, No FCC Charges, No Roaming... Just pick up the dang phone and talk.

My wife pays $27.95 total for 1200 Talk 3000 Text & 200 MB of Internet.

Radio Shack is a dealer so you could go in there to get info. I do all mine through the net and get the discounts.

Really glad it worked out for you. To me ST is a no-brainer. I'm not interested in the Apple phone yet but after a while I usually cave. Am I showing my age?

One thing that needs to be mentioned is the data is at 3G on Straight Talk, which might hinder some folks, but I think 3G is all that's available in parts of the lake anyway.
