Charter sent me a base increase of 100% but since I was such a good customer they gave me a credit so it only went up 33%. How thoughtful. Anyone here cut the cord yet?

I am looking for a few people to assist me in finding other cable providers and bringing at least another to our area.
 
I am as sick of Charter as anyone. There is nothing fair about what they are doing.

Probably won't make you feel any better, but DISH just slid a 10% increase in our basic rate across the plate. AT&T really getting active with U-Verse in B'Ham vs. cable and satellite. If you have AT&T local at the lake, start calling/e-mailing about availability. I know for a fact that AT&T ran fiber all the way from AC, down 259 to the end of CR20 on Parker Creek.If enough folks scream for U-Verse in that area, who knows?? Pricing is very competitive with cable/sat/internet.

I got mad at Charter's pricing policy over a year ago and changed to Direct. This Nov I plan to switch to Dish for two years, then back to Charter. Use their discount period and then move on. I still use charter phone and internet. I like Direct so far, lots more HD than Charter. I've heard that Charter was about to require a box on all TV's. Has anyone run into that yet?

I already pay $75/month for TV and internet that is used maybe 4-6 hours per month. Have been struggling with that concept for a while now....if they hike it another $25, then they may well lose $75/month revenue. Mack, do you know anyone who has the AT&T internet service on Bywater??

Each time Charter hikes mine, I call and ask to have it cut off.  They quickly find some discounts to get it back to where it was or lower.  Been doing this for several years now.  Wish they would just say "ok" to the cut off and then I'll try Direct.

I tried to to turn my box in last week since I get more channels on TV's without it.  THey told me if I turned it in they would send someone out to cut cable off to the house.  So I went back and put the cable box in the closet.

AT&T laid the fiber transport but I don't think they ever installed the electronics on each end. I think they were also fooled by the development planned for Bolton Cove and the end of Cty20 and just stopped deployment of U-Verse intended for the upscale homes.

I used to call in and get my price lowered through some new discount. This last go around didnt work though. He was willing to cut mine off so I told him give me 30 days to get dish installed and I would. He never flinched.

They are playing hardball. Did you know Charter has filed for bankruptcy again? Maybe this hard line has something to do with that. If you don't pay your creditors you have lots of flexibility to get aggressive. They are IMHO the worst when it comes to being customer oriented. I"m sick of it.

There must be a better solution. Now since their lines are run across public easements I'm sure they are regulated like any utility. Who is that?  State? County?

Thought they were coming out of bankruptcy, they filed in 2009.Maybe read it wrong.

Far as I know, unregulated. Courts ruled Charter is Entertainment, not a utility. 
I'll never understand how in H one can offer phone service etc and not be a utility. 

To me. Charter is just a trashy, dirty company.  Tell a lie is better than the truth to them.  Numerous instances of where our commercial phone lines/internet were down.  Blame anything else except their own ineptitude. They said our services were disconnected. In the most recent case  they had lost their tables (which gives the ip addresses so traffic knows where to go) in Alabama, Mississippi and Connecticut. What in heck is Connecticut doing hooked into our traffic? 
A few years ago the main FIOS trunk was cut by a contractor.  For 2 days they were telling residential customers it was your router at home.  They did tell commercial customers the truth when I reported the business outage thru the commercial customer service line.
