Does anybody know the height of the dam above sea level? I'm thinking I saw somewhere it's 480 but I can't find it. I'm in a bit of a disagreement with my mortgage company and FEMA. The mortgage company has been required by FEMA to add flood insurance to my payment. The bottom floor of my house is at 503 feet above sea level per a certified survey. If I can prove to the mortgage company the height of the dam is less than that, they agreed to help me fight FEMA on it. Why can't FEMA fall under sequestration? I know some, politicians that need sequescastration. Thanks, <>< TC

According to Google Earth, it looks like it's closer to 460 than 480. They probably won't accept that as official proof, but if that's anywhere close to being accurate, you should be in good shape. Someone with Alabama Power could probably verify the height for you.

Good luck.

You need to talk with your insurance agent and whoever did the survey They should be able to walk you thru how to get it approved . Had to do the same thing myself 3 years ago and 6 months and 5 calls to fema did the trick.I still get a notice from Fema every year that flood insurance is required but my agent ignores it.

It can't be 460. Summer pool is 465 and the historical high is 472. They will accept my survey and an official website. I've just got to find it. I've seen it before but can't find it now. Thanks, <>< TC

Someone just found it and emailed it to me. As soon as I can figure out how to post the link I will. The answer is 487.2. So since the lowest level,of my house is 503, I'm thinking I'm good. If it gets that high, insurance is the least of my worries. Peace, <>< TC

Its not the lowest point of your house, if you have an attached deck and the corner post is in the flood zone, your mortagee will require you to carry flood.  If you dont have a mortgage, you dont have to buy flood coverage if you dont want to..

Thanks. Nothing is attached that is in the flood zone. And considering the dam is 16 feet below the lowest point of the house, I'm thinking we can whip this thing. But they have the information now and I'm waiting on an answer. I was told it would take 6 weeks or more to get a response. Sequestion maybe? In the mean time, I'm now fighting with the insurance company over roof damage that they don't want to pay for. Geeze! <>< TC

My mortgage company made me buy flood insurance last year, cost me about $2,000 overall including the survey. Waste of money in my opinion, two years ago when we had I think 471 water level it still was not close to my house
