A neighbor of mine told me her house was broken into on or about February 25. Several hundred dollars of damage was done. The house next door was broken into as well. She called me again today and her house was broken into again last night. The houses are off Gennie Martin area. If you have full time neighbors or have neighbors going soon you might to ask them to check your house.

My house was broken into on March 15th.  Kicked in French door on lake side; stole flat screen TV off wall over fireplace doing significant damage to wall and to French door which will cost me double because replacement door won't match the other French door in room.  If we did not have an alarm system they would have cleaned out house.

Any idea where in Sandy Creek?  I have a house there but we are surrounded by full timers.  I will check with our neighbors but there is not much of value to steal from our lake house except skis, wakeboards, etc.  Sounds to me like a group of teenagers.  Hope they get caught soon.

I have been on Parker Creek for 22 years in May. ScumSuckers have robbed my place 3 times successfully. They failed to get thru a steel entry door the 4th time, but destroyed the framing in the process.

I cannot BoobyTrap the bastards without going to jail myself. An alarm system is useless in Coosa County if I depend on the Sheriff to make it from 40 miles away to answer the call, and at best arrest a Cretin for burglary, go thru the "court system" and be back in business in 30 days?? (Sheriff agrees)

Therefore, I have ordered/installed both video and still cameras/audible alarm systems on my property. These will record/date/time every vehicle that comes down my road or approaches my dock. Cannot prevent the rape if I am not there, but I will document it.

And Publish pictures of a face/tag number/vehicle/etc, shared with law enforcement as well as with all fast food restaurants/ bulletin boards/newspaper/gas stations/shelters/etc., etc. Reward?? You bet.

We've been here since 1964 and fulltime since 1984.  Never had a problem until a couple of years ago.  I had gone to Store 19 to get some nonethanol gas for my yard work equipment.  I had been working for some time and was gone less than thirty minutes.  While I was gone, my pressure washer and blower were both stolen out of my garage with my wife's car in it.  She was in the house.  To this day, I have never been able to rationalize how this happened.

I would like to welcome the thugs to my home with a nice 5 round salute from a short barrel pump 12 gauge.  Gotta show proper etiquette to guests you know.

Glad to hear others embrace our 2nd amendment as our family does. Our place is on Smith Mountain, not far from Manoy and we've seen a few break-ins as well over the past few years. We know who the culprit was for one and suspect him for a few others. Local high school dropout, in trouble with the law on a regular basis... Broke into his own grandmothers place. The sheriff came by our place asking if we had seen anything unusual. When I mentioned seeing the kid but not during the time of the break in, they said to watch out for him. --he went into more detail than what I thought was appropriate but I think he was really trying to make sure we were aware of how serious the situation was-- (Dadeville police and camp hill police know about this guy too...) What bothers me is the lack of presence of law enforcement in our area. I know Dadeville police don't patrol as far down as us (kind of glad for that but it's another story) but you would hope the sheriffs office and city PD would work together. I've never seen a random patrol car in our neighborhood. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Tallapoosa sheriffs department and think they do a great job). To be honest, a lot of lake houses are sitting ducks for vandals the majority of the year. FYI...This kid may not be the one behind these latest break-ins and I truly hope he's not. And I'm sorry to use this forum as a soapbox, but I think the real problem in the area is the kids running wild. They have nothing to do. It's the culture in the area too. So many families living on the immediate outskirts of the "lake neighborhoods" are either just barely above poverty level or below it. (Please correct me if I'm wrong...it's just what I've observed...) I'm not saying these families aren't taking care of their children or not loving them enough...but teenagers want to go out and have fun...and the only thing to do around the lake area for many of these kids is to hunt, fish, sit on a pier or go to the bar. So, in the winter they hunt or go fish at some of the public spots when they can. Well, hunting season is pretty much over...turkey isn't as much fun as deer for the younger crowd...so what else do they have left to do when the places like DARE park close at dusk? I'm not a local and I'm sorry if I've stepped on a few toes... And I'm not suggesting us "summertime locals" need to pitch in and help the locals out in order to keep our lake places safe from vandals...I'm just stating an opinion... Sorry again for ranting on my soapbox!
