Obama says gun control opponents "willfully lied". May take two days to clean off the computer screen

That is laughable coming from a congenital liar like TOTUS. He has told so many abject lies that I doubt he can any longer tell what is true or not. In fact, he is so narcissistic he probably thinks that his lies should be considered the truth just because he is GF and Archie's messiah. The fact is only 3% of the population think gun control is an important issue. Had they proposed sensible legislation that might actually address the criminals instead of going after law abiding citizens they might have gotten somewhere. There is something in the water in DC that affects mental acuity.

Just a thought, when I applied for my concealed carry permit I was run through a thorough background check, including fingerprints. From what I understand it included both State and Federal agencies. At no time did they ask what firearm I would be carrying. What if once a year, or every five years, or at some interval a citizen could go through such a check and get a certificate of being legal to buy firearms? Then you could walk into any store, buy off the shelf with no additional paperwork necessary. In private transactions presenting this "certificate" would give the seller assurance that they were not selling to a criminal. This would close any "loopholes" the looney left touts, yet not give the government the ability to have a registry of who owns what. Like I said, just a thought and looking for the flaws in such a proposal. I know criminals will continue to buy illegally or steal, but maybe it shuts down the stupid debate.

Like outlawing doing harm to someone?  I know that this is not a PC concept, but I do not understand why we insist on making things MORE illegal...  Kill a stranger, you may or may not be charged with murder "as a hate crime" - what?  Not legal for a felon to possess a firearm, not legal for someone convicted of domestic violence to buy a firearm (unless you are a law enforcement officer).  Not legal to lie on a 4473 or to make a strawman purchase.  We need to learn that there are many people in the world who are bad, they will NOT obey laws, they chose to rob because they are too irresponsible or lazy to get a job.  We cannot "fix", we cannot "rehabilitate" these people, it is time for us to put our big boy/big girl pants on and return to the proper use of punishment.  Capital punishment works - I guarantee that those who are gassed, fried or shot will never again harm anyone...

CCW laws vary widely by state and county - in Alabama a background check is usually performed, out of four counties that I have had a permit, three wanted make/model/serial # of "at least" one firearm that would be carried, one sheriff asked that I list "all possible firearms" on the back of the permit even though none were listed on the front - did not list any because that is not information that I would want to "lose".  Arizona requires that you pass a certified class and I believe noted on your drivers license that you had a CCW...  But I agree, if you have a valid permit, it should act as an "OK" for personal transfers between strangers.

South Carolina requires a day in class and another at the range actually demonstrating that the applicant knows how to use the firearm.....safely.

Forget a carry permit check. I am saying why not use a national background check, the current NICS would work, to verify the person as being one who can legally own/purchase firearms. Give them a certificate, and you're done for a specific amount of time. I could walk into Academy, choose a firearm, show my certificate, pay and I'm on my way. No answering all the questions, no listing the firearm by make, model, and serial number. I could buy whenever and wherever and whatever as long as teh certificate was valid.  That would do everything the libs want and avoid the registry conservatives fear. My concern is that an executive order might try to revoke all certificates, or put a moratorium on new checks and renewals.
