If you do a forum search for that term you will find a thread history on it. There are many volunteer fire departments around the lake. I've wondered how their services overlap with other departments, especially when the VFDs seem to be more localized.

I will. I wondered when the guy showed up, was outfitted in a "search & rescue" T-shirt but when I asked for information he could leave he didn't have any...said he could just leave a receipt for the donation. May be a good organization but he couldn't answer many questions as to resources either. Lots of red flags went up for me.

I can't say about that. Yes, every fire department does SAR in their district, but districts have mutual assistance agreements that overlap. For instance, StillWaters has mutual aide agreements with Dadeville, Camp Hill, Paces Point and Union fire districts.
Germain to Lake Martin SAR, Parker Creek has search dogs and rescue response people who help everyone.

Sorry, I got it wrong. My memory is not good these days (oxygen deprived last year too long).
It is Peckerwood VFD who is the fire dept who came to help StillWaters VFD. We'd been in the woods looking for a lost person for a few hours when they arrived. Had us organized into grid searches, dogs etc and found him in 1/2 hr.

Lake Martin Search and Rescue is valid. They broke off from Peckerwood and are indeed independent. Sorry for the error.

They are hired by different departments to fund raise for them. It is legitimate but they receive a large part of the donation.
