I was wondering if anyone has the coordinates of the Eagles nest that are around the lake? My wife loves to look at them and we only know of one or two. Maybe give an idea of the area such as "Dare Park" and then the coordinates?

PS: The bees are busy storing honey. Hoping to extract some in a week or two.

    Thanks,

    Tony

Long Leaf Antique Mall in Alex City ... But, it will be a few weeks.. I worked hard this year and hope to have alot to show for as far as my bees are concerned. I have 7 hives and one located here at home that I am trying to grow into a strong colony. They are acting puney and need a little TLC... The nectar flow is still going on so lets leave them to their work for now...

Tony, how do you separate the wax cappings from the leftover honey when you extract? We have a friend that has an extractor and also a heated wax melter. The wax melters are so expensive. I would like to do it myself without borrowing his, surely there must be an easy way.  How do you do it?

I will take my cappings and let them strain through a cheese cloth and get any extra honey possible (usually I keep this honey for myself) then I take and put the wax cappings and put them in my solar wax melter which I made. It was too simple. I can take a picture of it tomorrow.

I took a old styrofoam cooler and lined it with aluminum foil. Then I took a tupperware bowl that fit inside the cooler and put about 1 inch of water in it and then pull a cheese cloth across it rubberbanding it so it was tight. I lay my old wax on it and put a plexiglass lid on top. It gets supper hot quick on a sunny day. I have some of the most beautiful beeswax you have ever seen. Whats neat is its different colors when it comes out at different times of the year. Clover early summer, kundzu late summer is examples of why its different.

Not sure what I will do with my beeswax but nothing is wasted in a beehive.

Look for an article on me and my bees in Lake Magazine in the next month or two...
