That pretty much sums up the bottom line economic philosophy of this "liberal".

"Labor is prior to capital and independent of capitol.  Capital is the fruit of labor and could never exist if labor does not first exist.  Labor is the superior of capital and is deserving of much higher consideration."

Call me a "Socialist' or "Marxist" if it makes you happy, but I believe that our current situation of being so enslaved and beholding to money and the money manipulators for our prosperity, we are on the road to ruin.

What prosperity do you want?

Real prosperity...people bringing home a paycheck for making something or providing a service...rather than billionaires moving other people's money around and taking a chunk with every shift. An economy based on everybody doing well, not the already well off doing well.

Has that world ever existed?

Abe Lincoln quote. Funny how you see the problem as the billionaires and not the millions that are not working.

I do see the problem of the millions not working...that is why our economic kowtowing to capital rather than the producers grates on my nerves.

"I see in the future a crisis that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the future of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption will follow. The money and power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated a very few hands and the republic destroyed."

It is not hard to imagine Citizens United being the final straw to bring to fruition the outcome feared by Abe Lincoln.

So all you want is a radical change in culture and motivation of the worldwide population?
What the work needs now is love, sweet love........
I wish that farts were grape scented.

I think here's the problem with such a narrow interpretation of this quote. Labor is not a noun, it's a verb. Capital is a noun. Labor is the effort one expends regardless of whether it is digging a ditch or sitting in a board room making decisions. The fact is society places far greater value on the latter and little value on the former and rightly so. Anyone with a strong back and a weak mind can dig a ditch. Not so making good decisions about the course of a complex multi national corporation. Other than numerous branches of the govt, I am not aware of a successful corporation that succeeds by not providing what it's customer wants. This fear of corporations is abject nonsense. Fear your govt, for they can legally take what is yours at the point of a gun. They can imprison you. Theybcan harass you simply because of your political beliefs. They can send a drone to kill you. They can decide you don't get a transplant. Corporations not at all. It always astounds me the hypocrisy of the left that have no problem with labor unions spending billions on elections but want corporations muzzled. Get over Citizens United. It was the right decision. And get the tin foil back on your head so the corporations can't control you mind.

You tend to make a lot of generalizations. Some true...some false....some stick...some don't. I find this one a real stretch to make a point. "They can decide you don't get a transplant. Corporations not at all." Tell that to your insurance company or HMO.

I just hope you continue to send your share of your capital you earned for your labor to the IRS so I may continue to enjoy my entitlements. Don't renege and start hoarding your capital.

You can sue your insurance company over a coverage decision but you can't sue the federal govt unless they give you permission. And if you really don't like your insurer you can try to go elsewhere but that option isn't there with the govt. But I assume since you only highlighted this one issue you agree with rest and were wrong about this one. Thanks for the drive by.

It's like a lot of quotes taken out of context and used to incorrectly support a position that can't be supported with facts, logic and reason. Left wing nuts love pithy slogans because they lack substance. But when you take it apart and critically examine it there is usually a totally different meaning or it makes no logical sense...... In this case I doubt the author was promoting Marxism or socialism but why let that get in the way of an illogical use of a quote to support a failed ideology? It beats the heck out of examining the evidence and drawing a logical conclusion......and they feel better about themselves to boot....liberalism, the triumph of emotion over substance.

Your take on life is very much like the 30 year old who wrote Walden and later, Civil Disobedience. I would have loved to read a book by Thoreau when he was 60 to see if he had changed his mind at all after actually living life… but he died at 44. In a perfect world we could all be self sufficient and live like transcendentalist--- but nearly every attempt to live in a pure transcendentalist world has self destructed. The Amish have perfected it but still look for outside sources to gain advantage. Even Henry left his cabin on Walden to re-enter society. If it was so perfect I have often wondered why he did not stay there.
