I notice new fibre cable being installed. Has Windstream gotten faster internet?

Over the last 6 months I have been in contact with Windstream via phone and live chat because of the poor service.  On weekends when the service is heavily used the performance degrades to less than .5 Mbps download speed using the recommended website to test performance (See below link and select Atlanta).

They readily admit every time I talk to them that they have a bandwidth problem but never provide a get well date.  After heavy complaining they gave me a one time $15 credit.  They did not seem concerned that I was considering a new provider.  I hope they are upgrading and soon...

As you know there has been considerable comments about ISP service on Lake Martin.  I do not like Charter but they seem to have the best that is available (f you are in their area) . Charter just came to my place and installed a new modem, updated the router, and set me up on 30 Mbps service. Is it 30?  Not all the time but it will run between 15 & 30.  Windstream at .5 Mbps would be impossible for my grandsons to play their games.
One thing I have found out about Charter is they do not want to lose a customer. For cable (nothing fancy just expanded service) and internet they are charging about $80 per month. Recently they increased my charges by $29 so I told them to shov it and I was going to Dish.  They resinded the increase.

Sadly I do not have Charter available on the my area of the lake. So it's Windstream or Com-Link. Your 30Mbps is fantastic, don't complain

Enjoy your discounts while you can. Soon they will tell you that you have "run out of discounts" and then they dont care if you walk or stay... I told them my discount should be based on being a customer since 1992 and they have never had to come looking for the payment nor, have I ever called them for support or service... They said my discounts are over...

(DISH NETWORK IS ON THE WAY TO MY HOME IN THE MORNING- GOOD BYE CHARTER)

My sister owns a lake house near me and when she arrived a few weeks ago for the first time in awhile her cable was out. (she paid $29.99 a month) she went to Charter to speak with them and they said she had to have a Digital Box and went up to $44 a month. She went to her cabin and installed box and still no cable. She called them and they sent a installer out and he pulled a new cable from pole to the house (dumb ole me help him) and he cable waqs now working. She took out Digital Box and it still worked... She called Charter and said my brother is bringing this box back Monday and I want my $29.99 a month cable... CHARTER said " If you bring your box back the price goes up to $60 per month".

On another note I am personally speaking with 5 cable companies inviting them to Alexander City to provide competition to Charter. I am waiting on a call back from Knology/Wow in hopes to have hooked one. If this does not work the only resort is for the City of Alex City to provide the services from a Fiber Plant in the downtown area. It will cost lots of money but, is it worth it? Thats for everyone else to decide. I dont like my family, Friends & citizens being rodeo`d into paying high rates and hope to see some success in the future on the work I am doing.

Yes, I,d say you touched a nerve...

good luck on working with Alex City--they want to be the LAKE TOWN, but ----; we are members of Arts Council, etc, shop there, etc; however my artist wife couldnt enter an art contest sponsored by City due to us having a 36024 zip vs 35010 !!!

it's Wednesday 6-12-13 and 10:16PM- I just ran a speedtest and my Windstream connection is a blazing 1.47 MBps.
I usually give up on Sunday nights. This past Sunday I had the following results:
9:48 AM--3.26MBps
8:08PM-- 0.96 MBPS
9:00PM could only get 0.28MBp

This drop seems to happen every Sunday night.

I pay for 3 meg and I average 1.5 meg. Recently fiber optic lines came to my area and I was informed that  6 meg  speeds was now available for $5.00 more monthly. I tried the new service but  could not achieve 6 meg except for very early in the morning. Being  disenchanted with this I had Windstream switch me back to the 3 meg service.
