I know I am late, but please forget everything you have been told about anchoring a pontoon boat -   www.slideanchor.com, click on " shore spike ", buy the large one -   10 ft rope- slide through eyelet, tie to each of the outside toons, and forget it.  Your boat isn't goinh anywhere -  I beach mine at any beach on Martin, and unless a tidal wave comes in it does not move.  Check it out and you will not be sorry.  GUARANTEED!!!!

How much attention do you get if you kneel down on the beach and set those anchors?  I am thinking that the MP would visit to make sure that all was kosher...  Is it possible to drive the spike in with one hand and use one of those "shake weights" with the other?

As you approach the beach have all passengers move to the rear of the boat then take a straight shot into the beach as fast as can be achieved safely.  Once you start the run also start trimming up the motor.  The higher position of the bow will allow the tubes to slide further up onto the sand and no anchor is needed.  If the water is shallow enough trim the foot back into the sand to help hold in position.

Hummm. Might work for the beaches and islands that are soft sand but in my area there's lots of sharp rock on the bottom too.

If your pontoon boat has a lifting eye on the front of each pontoon tie a line to each. When you run up on the beach have a piling or tree in front of the center of your boat. Tie both lines tightly to the mooring. This will keep the boat from swinging.
Dan forth anchors hold very well but are sometimes difficult to retrieve. One way to prevent this is to tie your anchor line to the base of the anchor (at the pivot point). Then leave a bit of slack and secure the anchor line to the shank with a bit of light line. You can anchor normally but if the anchor hangs, a stout snatch breaks the light line and the anchor is easily pulled out backwards.
