Is it me or are the food portions kinda on the 'mini' side?? But, prices not so much??

I have been there twice for lunch, first time had the shrimp po'boy, lots of bread and 6 small shrimp, fries were cold. I sent the fries back and they did give me hot ones which were good.

The second time I had the Grilled Conecuh Dog, it was good but kinda short. Not even the length of a regular hotdog. My brother had the chicken wings, which were good but the smallest chicken wings I have ever saw.

Service was also on the slow side.

I would have thought they would have wanted to start off pleasing customers a little more before going downhill......

Other than that, it was great!! LOL

Had lunch there Friday. Service was average. Food was very overpriced for the portion size. Won't being going back. I don't think they will make it. You can't screw the local people and hope to make it through the winter.

We have experienced all of the above sad to say because the venue is sooo nice.  Of course I will say it is no worse than Sinclair's and they stayed around quite a while.

But the food at Springhouse and Catherines is so good. What gives?

pretty much same experiences--mostly my problem when there is poor service which seems to be from manager who seems dis-organized; but hey--just like Sinclairs management philosophy--where else you gonna go ? I say to Harbor Docks--

What do they not get?  Do they think that because of venue and lack of options that they can profit with any type of food, service and prices?  Unfortunately, that may be true.

Why not emulate the model of the old Kowalgia Fish House that burned down?   Great catfish, shrimp, burgers, and chicken done right.  Simple menu is fine, just make every dish the best.

Do they need a song to make the place better?

Agre with last post. Just something simple, not trying to get rich ( cause you are not going to do that around here). Oscar's does this, even if you don't like it.

You have to remember that the "old Kowaliga Fish House" (actually "Cecil's on the Lake") was NOT run by Russell Lands after the summer of 1986; from then until it burned it was completely in the hands of Greg Cecil, an experienced restauranteur. In the hands of Russell, it had trouble making money, so they let Cecil take over. He managed to turn things around almost immediately, but that's because he knew what he was doing. Put that restaurant in that site in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, and it will work. But open the doors and think it will work because it used to, and you'll wind up with what you have now.

Exactly, follow the model of the old Cecil's.

Easier said than done. To follow the Cecil's model, you have to hire someone who knows the restaurant business, someone who knows the local area, and someone who knows that you have to give people a reason to come, and more importantly, come back. (And you have to do this in the face of more competition than Cecil faced.) The ONE thing that Cecil did that no one in that space has done since is: he did it all without the "input" of Russell Lands. That's a big reason for his unprecedented success. It's also the reason that he is no longer in this area.
