Comments were filed with FERC by over 750 families, individuals, lake groups, and politicians. Notable supporting comments came from Senator Shelby, Governor Bentley, and Representative Rogers. Not so great comments were filed by the downstream farmers. Interestingly the Corps of Engineers, Atlanta Regional Council, and Georgia EPD appeared to have compared notes with their negative comments.

Interestingly, this was pointed out while the fact that hundreds of people posted the EXACT SAME positive comments was ignored. So I guess "comparing notes" is a terrible awful thing if one side does it, but not even worth mentioning when the other side does?
And as long as we're on the subject, why isn't the lake bustling with boats on this gray, chilly, gloomy day that is far nicer than most of the days we'll see in November, December, January and February? After all, the lake is full, and we've been told that all we need in the winter is higher water, and people will be out in their boats and spending money like crazy. "Weather has nothing to do with keeping people away from the lake and off the water; it's all about the water level!" Right?

Not intending to HiJack this thread, but this has been a really tough year for business, or at least for us it has. It never seemed to really get kicked off this Spring, because of weather. It seems like it rains EVERY weekend, and even rained all week during July 4th. Now, it is mid August and suppose to slow down. I have had extended conversations with local business owners, and they feel the same way. Jeff Harris (Harris Performance) and I have talked about it on numerious occasions all summer, and agree this has been the toughest year ever. My business is not close to where it should be YTD. Over the past few years I have spent a lot of time in the area, meeting people, enjoying relationships and visiting local eating places, stores, etc. I will tell you, small business owners have a "tough row to hoe" in the Lake area. It seems like someone goes out of business every week. Kinda scarey. Five families (eleven people) depend on my business' success. Talk about sleepless nights! I see a restaraunt close and think of all those employees that don't have a job. Whew. I don't know if a few feet of water here or there will make a huge difference in business, but lake traffic is way down. I urge everyone to support small business when they can.

US... I too, am no fan of canned responses as many individuals made to FERC, but at least they made the effort. You have made your preferences known previously; to each his own. As far as the guvment agencies ganging up, that's just a little disgusting to me personally.
CAT, I too, have felt the traffic on the lake has been lighter this year. In addition to the rain, I think the price of gas, and the general fear about the economy have affected lake folks.

Sorry to say. I am also a small business owner not specifically lake related and my business sales are also the worst ever. Talk to any small business owner and I think they will agree. I am going to stay away from political comments but something has got to change soon!

Schools starting in August has had a Huge affect on "summer" traffic. Anyone in business before and after that change can show that deficit.
I know I have seriously considered retiring this year. Between health and less business yet even higher expenses and time/dollar earned, hard to justify the effort. Hope I have a few years left and would like to enjoy them vs worry so much.

I for one really really really hope you guys make it. I told some friends after the disaster that was 4th of July week that it could kill several local businesses with you guys topping the list. I have nothing to base it on but a lifetime of experience but I would just about bet that that wee generates at least 20% of annual revenue. But on the bright side if you can survive this year you can make it forever.

Yea, it dang sure made it tough. Normally, March is gives us a little kick. Then Memorial day of course. The 4th is a big week or two. All thats left is Labor Day. IT's been tough. Your concern is appreciated.
