Consistently missing is the view of
the Arab world on the Syrian conflict.
We don’t seem to know what they want.
Surely they have seen nation after nation descend into chaos after “Arab Spring”
type takeovers. Established governments, however cruel they are (an acceptable
condition under Islam), are being overthrown by rabbles of disjointed factions…
who have NO plan for governing after a successful takeover. Into the breach of
amateur hour in the captured capitol… steps fundamentalist Islamic leadership…
and the rebels find more oppression than they had before they rebelled. Sharia
law is not a liberating replacement for oppressive dictatorship or autocracy.
So… what do the other Arab nations want? They are surely in a quandary: They
are Islamic governments who see what happens when Islam takes over a
country. These regional powers should come
to consensus… and then lead the way.
Meanwhile, the Western nations should stay out of this no-win
conflagration in Syria (PLEASE don’t ask Senators McCain and Graham for advice).

Opinion by h_hob. The American people have a penchant for attempting to help people they feel are oppressed. They see themselves as world saviors. However, they fail to see that the last nation they helped get out from such oppression was the Japanese nation. They have forgot, to do it right, they had to decimate that country totally and assist in rebuilding it. We need to keep our noses out of other countries' business or fight the war we enter into and treat it like we did Japan.

My
fellow Americans, despite the fact that an overwhelming number of us do not
want the U.S. to get involved in the Syrian civil war... matters not. The Gelding-in-Chief, his stolen-valor
Secretary of State, and our very own Rinos-in-the-Legislature… Senators McCain
and Graham, and (non-)Representative Boehner DO WANT TO GET INVOLVED.
I’m still betting that we take this ignorant action (history bed@mned). That we further involve ourselves in
humanitarian aid (history bed@mned). AND,
that the Islamic world will be inflamed and emboldened by our stupidity (history bed@mned).

Votes?

An important question for you Alabamians is: How will Alabama Rep. Rogers and Senators Sessions and Shelby vote on a war declaration if they are allowed to vote? Both your Senators tote the flag against ObamaCare and Immigration but are mysteriously silent about Syria. My guess is Sessions and Shelby want to avoid the Syria topic because they want to support missile defense contractors in Huntsville while the majority of their constituents would be against Syria intervention. I'm not seeing anyone ask questions on their position.
I doubt they call this a "war declaration" however.
In Tennessee we know both of our Republican Senators (Corker and Alexander) vote with the Democrats 62% of the time and both love war no matter the cost (their votes indicate so). There is growing support to primary Alexander next year but he has a $5 million campaign bankroll funded by bank and pro-tax lobby groups.
It amazes me how congress is not listening to their constituents.

I found an article this morning (below) that describes known positions on a Syria vote. The vast majority are not known (including Sessions, Shelby and Rogers). My experience has been to call my congressional offices and state my opinion saying I live in the Tennessee District 2. They only want to hear from registered voters within their represented district/state. If their intentions match your opinion, they'll usually tell you. Otherwise, if you inquire to they're position, they'll say they don't know how they will vote until they hear from more constituents. That is what they say when they abandon the wishes of their constituents too. Then you can look at the roll call after the vote and see for yourself what they did. I've only been interested in politics for a couple of years, but now I find citizen apathy disturbing. In Tennessee I know of several groups that can generate several hundred phone calls to influence the state legislature. I find Alabama to not have good organization, even within the major parties.
All I'm saying is: If you don't call and express your opinion, they will surely hear from Ratheon, Boeing and Lockheed Martin lobbyists from Alabama.

You are
right… Syria would be a good place to beta test some of the new weapons
technology roll-outs.
I wish McCain
would shut up! He’s a major wedge in the
conservative vote… and I think he is a senile puppet of somebody or an industry
or two. The libs like for him to be a
GOP RINO and shouldn’t want him to switch to the party he votes with.

McCain's campaign financing is pretty scary. In 2008 there was a lot of money coming from foreign accounts and it was suspected they were from foreign governments (same for Obama too).

“Kerry also revealed Wednesday that Bashar al-Assad's Arab
enemies have offered to pay the United States a ‘significant’ sum to launch
strikes on the Syrian regime.” [FoxNews, 04SEP13]
Ah! Now
we know the Arab position… The threat
of fundamentalist Islamic takeover is troublesome to regional governments. BUT, because the religion of Islam dominates
their populace, they would not want to be seen as publicly endorsing the use of
the power of The Great Satan… Inshallah… to assuage their fears.
With our great
penchant for negotiation and compromise, we confirm that we are weak and gullible
twits. Do we see the Arab nations condemning acts of terror against our
citizens? The Koran allows for this sucker punch to infidels. Kerry is
incompetent if he leads us into this trap. We will be d*mned if we do.

There appears to be no military goal for attacking Syria.
Here are three things an attack on Syria won't accomplish: [Peter
Suderman]
1. It won’t stop the killing of Syrian civilians.
2. It won’t disarm or destroy Assad’s chemical arsenal.
3. It won’t tip the balance of the war against the Assad regime.
And remember, if we
remove Assad, his chemical weapons will belong to al Qaeda… nice!
