I hope everyone is well!
We have sold our big'ol empty nester homestead and are deciding how to do a significant remodel on our lake house for future full time occupancy. If I was doing this in the Atl I would know who to call or even sub it out myself. But around the lake I would prefer to hire someone to handle it.
The project will involve significant work on the existing structure as well as additions and involve all the trades usually involved in new construction. The additions will need to aesthetically pleasing to the existing structure and experienced suggestions to achieve that are welcomed.
I am looking to meet with a few good candidates in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
If anyone has a referral I would appreciate it. If you don't want to hurt your " brother in law's " feelings, feel free to email me at

Dean Construction of Alexander City custom built our home on
StillWaters (2067 SF). We went for
quality over size as we are retired.
1 -
His work is excellent,
2 - He stands
behind his work, and
3 - There we no
surprises (in fact he advised us in time to avert some that WE had built into
the project).
4 - Cecil is a patient man who has been around for a LONG time.
Cecil was recommended to us by a former employee of a builder
supply who remember him from the supplier side of construction. Cecil and his
sons are forthright... and that counts!

Richardson Construction out of Dadeville built our lakehouse and we were very pleased with the work they did and price. They currently have a couple of homes in various phases of construction on the lake, so you could gauge their work for yourself as I am sure they would gladly show you those as well as others that they have done over the years.
I have also heard good things about Dean Construction and TMP Construction, but cannot vouch for them personally.

You may want to consider someone from Atlanta, Montgomery or Birmingham. Our experience on the lake is that contractors here are not very interested in remodels or anything less than new construction. Typically we have found that they are no shows or show up and to see what the job entails and agree to do it and then you never hear from them again. This includes contractors recommended by the building supply businesses. By all means, don't pay until the work is done. Once you get here, the lake is a wonderful place to live - wouldn't live anywhere else. Really tired of hearing "Buy Local".

We have owned our place in the Sandy Creek area since '04 and have done several projects since then. I have used Rodney Pless, 256-307-5289, several times and he has always done an outstanding job for me. He is in the Dadeville area but will come to other parts of the lake. He did a major remodel for us 4 years ago and we were more than pleased with his work and his pricing. He has done at least 4 or 5 additional jobs since the remodel. I highly recommend Rodney. I concur 100% with the Major (MAJ USA RET). Dean Construction was a class act for a very recent project they completed for me from start to finish. It was my first construction project and I expected nightmares and cost over runs. Mr Cecil and his sons actually completed on time and slightly under budget. I would not use anyone else.

I just posted a blog post about a remodel by Doug Fuhrman - see the link below. I posted some before and after pictures of a remodel he did in the Real Island Area. At the bottom of the post there are 2 more links of some earlier pictures of the same renovation. He also did some work on my house, did an awesome job. Experienced, trustworthy, great follow through. Tops.

I also agree with the others about Dean Construction. I have recommended them many times.

Give TMP Construction a call- a builder from Atlanta with over 30 years of building experience- office now in Dadeville as they have moved to the area - this company is a master at renovations- can draw up your plans and is there for every step of the build. The best thing is that they get the work done without major delays- very honest and hardworking people- website www.tmpconstruction.com
