I called CEWSA in Wetumpka today to find out about the smelly residential drinking water. They told me they installed a filtration system to help last Tuesday. They said it would take 7 - 10 days for most homes to notice an improvement in quality. If you live at the end of the line maybe longer.

The lady directed me to the CEWSA website to a paper that talks about what is causing the issue. Please see link below to read about Geosmin.

Funny, it's only on the Kowaliga side. Guess that's what you get for living on the "backwater". Us folks on the river side get to drink that bacteria and fungus before it dies...and it doesn't stink so bad!

I don't have the problem but funny if its so pervasive in the environment I haven't smelled it before.... Bad nose?

Thanks for the info. I live about 3 miles from the CEWA treatment plant and I have not noticed a funny smell or taste to the water. However, I usually mix my water about 50/50 with scotch.

I think that is the fix they are working on, except they are looking for Elmore County Moonshiners to provide the mix.
