After 40 plus days of Lent it is finally Holy Week and as much as I am looking forward to Easter Sunday (and the end of my Lenten sacrifices) I will also miss the extra reminder of the greatest sacrifice ever made.  In the Catholic Church the Easter Triduum begins on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Lord's Supper and at our Parish a Seder Supper which is essentially the Passover meal celebrated by our Jewish brethren. The Mass of the Lord's Supper is a beautiful and solemn event where the altar is stripped of all its finery, the Tabernacle is emptied and everyone leaves the darkened Church in silence.  Then on Good Friday we have the Seven Last Words on a day of fasting and prayer as we contemplate the ultimate sacrfice.  Our family tradition that evening is to watch the Passion of the Christ (before that we watched the version of Jesus of Nazareth that covered the crucifixion).  Some years we attend the Easter Vigil on Saturday night which is a two hour mass where many converts enter the Church which is a beautiful liturgy.  Then the celebration begins on Easter Sunday as we contemplate the resurrection.  And if we we don't attend the vigil mass we go to Easter Sunday mass to see all the C&E Catholics

I hope everyone has a blessed Easter week however you mark the occasion.

Great recap of traditions and liturgy involving this Holy time.  The colors and sacraments give such meaning to period, and Jesus' resurrection coming at the opening of spring gives Life to so much Truth.  While we rural Protestants do not follow each detail of the liturgical calender, Communion at this time of the year has a special meaning, and our C&E folks arrive on time.

Well you have us beat because our C&E visitors are often late, can't find parking and get stuck in the back or in an overflow mass.  Either way, I am glad that mass is part of their Christmas and Easter tradition and the Monsignor is always kind enough to explain that we do this every Sunday and would love to see them every week.

Another rural Protestant here. We will have a service at the lake Easter Sunday. We have a group that meets every weekend. We claim to have a sunrise service, although its at 10:00. The sun is just then peeking over the hill in front of our dock position. We will have a special service with traditional songs and a message about the resurrection. Unfortunately our attendance doesn't grow until Memorial Day, July 4th weekend, and Labor Day. On those weekends we have had as many as 85. Not a huge number but most of those would not have been anywhere. We normally average 15-20.

What is the location for the 10:00 "lake service"?
