With a recommendation of several customers I’m going to explain in some detail as to why Harbor Docks /The Harbor cannot sale alcohol on Sundays.

Kawligia Restaurant is operating under what the state calls a Development District which allows for Sunday sales under the statue. Our issue is they don’t follow the statue and don’t meet the law requirements to have such license. I think we all can come up with our own theory on how they accomplished this.

Examples

The statue states the following

No cash Transactions

A Development District can be established in (a) county. They operate 1 Development District in Tallapoosa and Elmore

They must have horse stables and Riding Trails, Restaurant, General Store /Grocery/Info Center

It is my opinion that they met all the above at the Cross Roads Development except the No Cash Transactions only charge

They have joined an area around Kawligia Restaurant and have added it to their District at Crossroads in Tallapoosa County

Which under the law is not allowed.

To be clear we commend the Russell l Corporation on the positive things they have done for the local community and charities and Lake, but they should not have an unfair advantage on a person or business due to their political connections and money

If you think this is an unfair justice contact your State Rep and County Commissioner and Governors office. We are a small family restaurant and do not have the means to file a federal lawsuit.

Your fight is noble and just, but is going to run into the same wall that all of these battles do: when you're up against anything with the name "Russell" attached, you're up against someone who gets to play by a diferent set of rules than you.

Whether it's a "special" liquor license, relaxed "rules," or even the sort of "looking the other way" that usually only happens in the most outlandish Hollywood movies, they're going to get their way. They just are.

I feel so sorry for the good people at Pleasure Point who would still be in their homes if that property had been owned by Russell Lands. Except that Russell Lands would never have allowed houses so small to stand, of course. But the violations that happened at PP are miniscule to some of the things that happen every day at RL.

You hit the nail on the head.Russel lands get what they want and all those people we elect into office will show some effort at first if you contact them and then they end up being no help at all.The are all in russells and apco's pocket.I know first hand.On a lighter note I must say lake martin is a beautiful lake and I plan to enjoy a great summer there.I'll support harbor docks no matter what.

I think any specifics from Wakely would be cut short because he "pleaded the fifth," and wouldn't say things that could incriminate him. Maybe one day when all of the statutes of limitations run out he'll give up the juicy details. Can you tell I used to watch Perry Mason? LOL!

Who cares? get over it and worry about your handful of customers. everyone has a choice and hundres and hundreds of lakers choose Kowaligia.  Most are too busy adding to society therefore not around to self indulge in advertising for their self interest. Hate to break it to ya but this is a seldom used site. signing back off and sorry i opened this bookmark.

I was actually looking for any comments on The Food Network selecting the fish tacos at Kowaligia as the winner of the state of Alabama 50 tacos in 59 states.. Google it

What he failed to mention is everyone living in the vicinity of Harbor Docks did not like the 2:00-3:00 a.m. loud noise from the restaurant/bar on Saturday night.  Not only was the music loud, almost the entire night, but combined with the cars screaming out of the parking lot, people screaming at each other and the loud boats leaving at 2:00 a.m., it was unpleasant.    With Sunday sales, this would then happen again on Sunday night.  What started out as a great place to have a meal on the lake was turning into the Boathouse Lounge all over again.

All he had to do was take into consideration the families who live in this area, he did not.

Nothing wrong with Sunday alcohol sales if you are a restaurant and observe restaurant hours....not a bar!
