We are down this weekend for the first time in a couple of months. We have water through Alex City Water and it smells like rotten eggs or sulfur.  I contacted the water works Friday afternoon and they said just flush pipes which we have been doing but the smell persists.

Anyone else have this problem?

thanks in advance for any responses.

Flush the lines... If you live near a dead end and most of the homes are weekenders. This is a problem. The City has had to install automatic flush valves at the Ridge because of not enough water being use. The chlorine will disapate and the water will become stagnet. All I could offer is continue to flush the lines. Think of what has been setting for so long.  You may want to install your own auto-water valve on a outdoor spicket to keep the water flowing when your away. I know there is a cost involved but, consider the options...

  Good Luck,

Enjoy the Holiday.

Thanks we are on a circle in the Ridge at the end of North Ridge so we definitely fit your description!

Notice how AC offers to flush the lines for free!!  Water cost money,  why don't they do their job.

Call A & M Plumbing.  I'm in your neck of the woods too and they installed a water filter system that performs a weekly backwash and flush that keeps me very satisfied with my water.  Ask for either Mark or Michael.

No. Don't call A & M Plumbing. I had a simple job of cleaning an outside drain pipe. They charged $350 for less than an hours work.

The Windermere Fire Dept. will be testing and a little flushing of the water hydrants later this week I think I know where you are in the Ridge, just down the street from me.  If I am right Your house sets far from the street. If you use the open hose bib idea you will need to leave it open for about one hour.

We have now run all water in house until hot water heaters ran cold and odor appears to be gone. Thanks for your help and advice.

If this does not stay fixed then I will seek help from the plumber that was used when the house was built.

Again thanks
