I seem to read into some of the comments that character doesn't matter as long as you excel in football. Did those of you that believe that character doesn't matter actually look into the statement that he made? I hope you don't believe that such language is accepted as a standard way of communicating in todays' society. I certainly wouldn't expect my daughter to be subjected to such discourse by someone in a public institution who is receiving a free education just because he can play football.

I certainly hope my grandchildren don't think this jerk is any kind of hero.

The problem is that some players, both at the college and the professional levels, are nothing more than thugs with an ability to play sports.  And yet coaches and team owners are reluctant to dismiss them when the thug behavior comes out.   They should be held to a higher standard, not a lower standard.

I think that when institutions and coaches accept the type of undesirable behavior that many of these athletes exhibit, they are, in turn, accepting the same behavior as their players. Their main interest is in furthering their rise to the top of the ratings regardless of how they get there. It falls into the "syndrome" that it is ok because everyone else is doing it.

I tend to agree, but I wonder how much pressure they get from the alumni to "overlook" these incidents.  But it is definitely a failure of leadership on the part of the coaches and athletic Directors.  Apparently the lesson to be gained from this for these athletes is that actions have no real consequences.

There is overwhelming pressure to "overlook" this behavior.  This athlete's action were suppressed last year so he could help win a national championship.  I believe that if the truth was known, the president of FSU stepped in and made the coaching staff not play him last week.  Playing him could give the criminoles a "blackeye"  Of course ESPN or whichever network that it was shown on had him on as much as the backup QB.
