We received our policy renewal this weekend and the policy went up this year.  It has gone up 50% in 2 years.  We have Allstate and have been a multiple policy holder with them for 25+ years. 

We did some online quotes and Progressive said that we didn't meet their criteria for coverage.  The couple of other places I did an online quote with said we have to call an agent.  Our deductible with Allstate right now is $1000.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company?  I did Progressive, Farmers and Geico.  We are at the end of Coosa 20.

You might try Auto Owners.  They have an agent in AC.  I've heard that Amica (sp?) has quoted in Alabama.  If you were ever in military/reserve/guard you qualify to join USAA.  Good Luck.

i used to have Allstate.  Their policy is that if you are more than 5 miles from your VFD, you are charged double.  I switched to State Farm and they don't care how far the VFD is, it's their rating that determined the rate.  I am currently shopping because State Farm has just about doubled in the last 6 years, but I haven't found any cheaper.

I called our agent today because our policy expires Oct 31.  He just had a generic address because we've never actually had a street address.  Just by him adding our 911 address dropped the rate $76.  We just increased the deductible for this year and will be shopping around.

BTW, I meant to mention in the post above that the three companies I mentioned above are the three highest rated home insurance companies by Consumer Reports based on service.  No, I have never sold insurance and have no dog in the hunt.

We had Allstate written off our Beach house policy, then Allstate sent out a rep. and cancelled our policy. So we called the Allstate agent on the coast and they wrote us a policy off an affiliate, it's not Allstate but it seems very high for such a dinky cabin, about $100 per $10k insured. You may be able to ask your Allstate agent to check it out !

Tried to get Farmers to write off our B'ham home and they were even higher. Still much better than the prices on the coast.

Call State Farm in Alex City.  If you insure a vehicle with them also, rate is reasonable.  i received a quote from Allstate in Alex City also, but they are hard to deal with.

I can tell you from experience that Allsnake is the absolute worst insurer in the country.  There is a reason for the website http://allstate-insurance.pissedconsumer.com.  Used to be one called allstatesucks.com that was rife with horror stories.  When they denied my claim and later cancelled my homeowners insurance I told them my goal was to cost them $1M per year in premium dollars and I am well on my way.  They suck worst than most insurance companies and are unethical.
