PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO APPEAR ON THE BALLOT IN THE 2014 NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION

Amendment 1 - VOTE YES
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to prohibit the State of Alabama from giving full faith and credit to public acts, records, or judicial proceedings of another state that violate the public policy of the State of Alabama and to prohibit the application of foreign law in violation of rights guaranteed natural citizens by the United States and Alabama Constitutions, and the statutes, laws, and public policy thereof, but without application to business entities. (Proposed by Act 2013-269)
A YES vote is recommended to prohibit judges from ruling on the bases of foreign law, a recent disturbing trend.

Amendment 2 - VOTE NO
This amendment would raid the Rainy Day Fund, therefore increasing the pressure for more Taxes. Vote NO
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, relating to the Capital Improvement Trust Fund, to increase the amount of the General Obligation Bonds authorized herein; to provide for additional payments from the Alabama Trust Fund to fund any bond issued; to provide for competitive bidding of the bonds; and to provide for the distribution of the proceeds for plans, construction, and maintenance of Alabama National Guard armories. Alabama Association of County Commissions recommends voting NO. (Proposed by Act 2013-266)

Amendment 3 - VOTE YES
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, a proposed amendment to the Alabama Constitution would make owning firearms a fundamental right, and measures to control weapons would have to pass the toughest review by state courts. Gives every citizen has a fundamental right to bear arms and that any restriction on this right would be subject to strict scrutiny; and to provide that no international treaty or law shall prohibit, limit, or otherwise interfere with a citizen's fundamental right to bear arms.
Recommend YES vote to guarantee our 2nd Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is a supporter of this amendment.

Amendment 4 - VOTE NO - Stop Tax Increases
This Amendment gives local school boards taxing authority. Vote NO to more school taxes.
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to prohibit a general law, whose purpose or effect is to require a new or increased expenditure of at least $50,000 of local funds annually, from becoming effective with regard to a city or county board of education without enactment by a 2/3 vote. (Proposed by Act 2014-185)
While the language sounds good at first, this gives new authority for local board of educations to levy taxes. Tax increase approval is by local board of education, and local legislative delegation. Conservative groups recommend a NO vote. Alabama Tea Party Express recommends a NO vote.

Amendment 5 - VOTE YES
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to amend Amendment 597, now appearing as Section 36.02 of the Official Recompilation of the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended, to clarify that the people have the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife subject to reasonable regulations that promote conservation and management of fish and wildlife and preserve the future of hunting and fishing. (Proposed by Act 2014-286). The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is supporting Amendment 5.
Vote YES. This amendment is in reaction to a liberal judge sentencing a man to jail for over a year, as he did not have a fishing license.

This would be better placed on the Off-Topic forum.  Please, keep your political opinions off the Lake Martin Topics.

Thanks for posting this LP.  I read these on the ballot and it's difficult to intrepret the legal mumbo jumbo.  Also, thanks for posting it where you did.

I am glad to see this as well.  It corresponds with one other source that I can respect.

Probably the wrong place, but I enjoyed the read and may not have seen it on the off topics page (I rarely go there). It helped solidify my thoughts.

This post was well identified in the subject line.  If you objected to it, why did you click on it?  I too am one that appreciates it being posted.

Thanks for posting.  The only one objecting to posting here is a diehard liberal.  The rest of us appreciate the detailed explanation.  And, BTW, Off Topics is not restricted to Alabama so it would not be the appropriate place anyway.

Whoa, Hodja.  How do you come up with that?  I admit that I could not stomach Sarah but supported Romney (both with $$$ and support) and am registered Republican.  I just feel that politics is better served on the Off-Topic forum.  Politics is divisive and the regular forum is good to read about other topics for Lake Martin.  Sorry I hit a hot button for so many.  I just felt this group of Forum readers were informed and smart enough that we did not need someone from Smith Lake to interpret for us.  And for those that needed voting advice, I was sure they'd go to the Off-topic forum. Guess I was wrong.

Now, now guys. Blame everythng on liberals. Liberty signed up for the Forum just to post this thread and posted it on 15 different lake Forums. Maybe, a liberal who is getting paid to post.

My thoughts also.  I rarely go to the off-topic section.

Thanks for the info!

Casey (TotheLake) not to be confused with the person posting as "Casey", we are 2 different people.
