I just got back from the Chicken Show in Newnan, GA. I bought 14 new laying hens to go along with the current 12 hens and should be getting 18 to 24 eggs per day come the middle of Spring. If anyone is interested in buying really fresh eggs, please let me know. I'm at the lake fulltime now.

Yeah, when I read his post this morning I was thinking Maddog must have one heck of a chicken condo.

McGill.....I do. It's 10'x20'x8'. I have an area fenced in around the chicken condo so the girls can free range all day long. The condo will hold up to 40 hens.

Chicken Condo.....Girls....Free Range.   What will BigFoot do with this?

The "range" part threw me off...I was looking for the word free in front of the eggs...

Hey, he did say "free range eggs", didn't he?

I can see right now that I'm going to have problems with BF and his twin LNG. The eggs are free but the cartons will cost you $2.00 and the state of Alabama states that all eggs must come in a carton. Don't even think about bringing your own carton. The state of Alabama also states that all free loaders bringing their own cartons will be finded for illegally transporting used egg cartons without a permit. Person selling cartons with eggs included will be responsible for collecting the illegally transported cartons and the fine of $2.00. If low life refuses to pay fine, seller of cartons including eggs has the right granted by the State of Alabama to discharge a firearm in the direction of the low life scumbag. If anyone has questions regard the above mentioned transaction, please do not hesitate to call me at BR549. Thank you very much.

OK, BigFoot, looks like we will need to take our skillet and propane torch with us to eat said "free range eggs" on the premises.  You got any sausage?

I can bring bacon, sausage, and a biscuits...or maybe some fresh sourdough rolls. We'll also need some some fresh peppers and maters, ML. In addition, a fried egg goes well on a thick bacon cheesburger. Maddog is gonna be hosting a mighty fine free range egg party...yes sir, mighty fine.

LNG, McGill and BF.....I sure hope you guys have a resturant permit, an outdood commercial cooking permit along with a health permit for cooking and serving all these so called "free (range) eggs" in a commercial environment. I've already received an inquiry for the Tallapoosa Restaurant Association, the Tallapoosa Health Dept and the State of Alabama Revenue Dept about the people that will be cooking, selling and serving people near my property. I have of course given all three agencies y'alls contact information and let them know that I have nothing to do with y'alls plans. I explained to these three agencies that I'm just a poor chicken farmer trying to "scratch" out a living now that I'm on a fixed income trying to live on the small amount of money I get from my SS check. If I had known that these chickens were going to cause all these problems, I would have fried the damn things.

I don't think you have to worry about folks actually wanting to eat McGills cooking.

I know what you're saying Cat, but he might bring someone who can actually cook food that you can actually eat.

I have pretty much stayed out of the cook/cant cook debate having never sampled either of the main players offerings.  But I know how many folks are with their hobbies/passions/passtimes.  When they cant break 90 on the golf course they constantly buy the "latest and greatest" club, training aid etc.  Same with sportsman always having to have the best rod and reel, bait, scope, gun, whatever some salesman tells them will improve their "game".

McGill is building a new kitchen!

Jus' saying.

If the Health Dept. gave you a permit for your free range chicken condo, they will probably cough one up for McGill and LNG...as for my Judge position, I don't need one...just gotta scrape my tongue real good to get the sensories up close to the surface..

Maddog, Chicken Condo?, Health Dept?    What language are you speaking, Bigfoot?  Those should not be used in the same sentence.  Everything will be fine until Maddog starts selling "fertlizer".  But wait!  There is plenty of that on the forum already!

Y'all better quit snortin' the dried chicken chit....Cat, you're gonna get a schooling when the new kitchen is complete. Attendance will be mandatory. Travis will judge, and you know he will be honest.

As far as the upcoming cook-off between Cat and McGill is concerned, I need to put my two cents in this thread. I am a certified barbecue judge with the Memphis Barbecue Network and the Georgia Barbecue Association and have been judging for over 25 years. I have judged barbecue contests from New Hampshire to Texas. It's great that McGill is building this wonderful outdoor kitchen, but for it to be a proper contest, the cook-off needs to be held at a neutral site. You also need more than one judge and the cooked meat needs to be presented to the judges in unmarked containers so the judges will not know who cooked/smoked the meat. This is called "blind judging" and this creates a fair playing field for all of the cook teams. This systems determines who has cooked the best barbecue that day. I would be more than willing to judge and if need be, help with setting up this cook-off. I also think it should be open to other folks that want to show off their cooking/smoking ability. This "I'm a better cook than you" back and forth has been going on way too long. If you can't back up your brag, then you need to get under the porch. Let's set a date, place and time and let's GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!

May that porch be spacious and high off the ground!  As someone said, "that stuff in the chicken yard is cold"  Yeah, and it's deeeep too...

hold on there Maddog.....you lost that gig when you picked sides with a puddytat, lol. I think Cat and I would both trust Travis though, and I'm sure we could find a few more neutrals we could agree on. That said, Cat doesn't really want to compete anyway, but he does like to stir the puddin'. Cat knows. Besides, Tallisi and I aren't into BBQ for the glory or awards and there are plenty on here that have broke bread with us; many other good cooks on here too.   BTW, my new kitchen is indoor, we're doing a major remodel that includes the whole house, not just the kitchen.

McGill.....as I explained, with "blind judging", the judges DO NOT know who cooked the meat. If you don't want me to judge, that's fine with me. However, I will volunteer to set up and run the contest so it will be fair to all cook teams involved. I just want to get this cooking contest over and find out who is the better cook/smoker.

See Maddog....  He is confused, and stays that way most of the time.  Meanwhile, he "text" me behind all of this, and ask me to take it easy on him, and not formally except the challenge.  He even offered me money not to show up.  Really.....

I really don't have a dog in this fight. I've found McGill and Cat both to be fine gentlemen.

That being said, I'll volunteer to come down and be a judge if one of yall can ever get this fire lit. I can be impartial and have been known to get hungry from time to time.

Then again, this might be more fun if you just leave it in the talk stages. Kinda like food foreplay.

Peace,

TC

I'm interested in purchasing some of your chicken eggs on a somewhat regular basis- my daughter likes to bake and has promised various varieties of confectionary dreams if I provide her with fresh farm eggs :) How can I go about getting some of these eggs?

Hi Maddog,

After reading your post about the chickens I got to thinking about Jack. How is he doing? I just had 2 more dogs show up at our house and I'm hoping I can find them a good home too!

I may contact you about some fresh eggs later on. We don't eat eggs often, but when we do, we really enjoy the fresh ones.
