Subject:   The future of the GOP & Donald

It's been my thought for some time now that the GOP is heading toward a split of some sort, and  I would be interested in other folks' thoughts on that.    My reasoning is that the party seems too polarized, and the old line moderate Republicans are seeing the hard pull to the right (that is, the Tea Party) and they just can't seem to come to terms with each other.   Moderates can't be proud of the extremists,  or the "I'll stop at nothing to roll back the clock" right-wingers because they are grid-locking the decision making process  and causing lots of embarrassment to the GOP "brand".    And the Tea Party is Ok with that.  Could a billionaire like Trump fuel that split for his own political plans?   Could the time be right for him to lead the extreme right wing out of the GOP?

I know it will not be popular with the stalwarts of this forum, but it is the only long term salvation of the "reasonable" wing of the GOP.  A center right party would be dead meat in the short term but if they finally position themselves politically where the voters are they will be successful in the long term and maybe even attract some "moderates" like me who used to vote with some regularity with the GOP, before they were hijacked by the nut crowd, to do so again, especially if the left extreme is as successful at moving the Democrats away from the reasonable center the way the T party has moved the GOP to the paranoid right.

Maybe the notion of splitting away from the GOP won't be as opposed here as you think.

Copperbottom and Archiebell,

No matter what you guys post, you will always be looked at with a jaundiced eye.   GFY is so squirrely, nobody pays any attention to him.

C'mon now, stick to the subject.   Trump states today that he will consider a 3rd party run "if he isn't treated better by the Republican National Committee".   What do you think about that?   Good idea?   Great Idea?   Or a bad idea & disaster for the GOP?

Can't see this as a positive for the GOP. IMHO.
