Trump says let's keep jobs here in the US. But, what does he do?

" Trump is staking his run for U.S. president in part on a vow to protect American jobs. But this month, one of his companies, the elite Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Florida, applied to import 70 foreign workers to serve as cooks, wait staff and cleaners.

A Reuters analysis of U.S. government data reveals that this is business as usual in the New York property magnate's empire.

Trump owns companies that have sought to import at least 1,100 foreign workers on temporary visas since 2000, according to U.S. Department of Labor data reviewed by Reuters. Most of the applications were approved, the data show."

Just another example of Trump's personality, he doesn't have to be intellectually consistent because all he focuses on is "winning"... he doesn't mind contradicting himself and doesn't even seem to notice when he does.   The fact that the polls show him to be strong is a really interesting, but really disturbing, trend in this country.    Makes me wonder where we are headed as a nation.

On the other hand, Trump may be a last gasp reaction of a white middle & lower class who are about to be pushed into minority status by future demographics.  The conservatives in those economic classes are panicking and looking for a bombastic leader.   Maybe that explains his rise.

I just don't know.   And right now, I can laugh about him because I don't think there is any way he will be nominated by the Republicans... but fact is, he is only a showman who has no idea how to conduct a Presidency.

I don't expect the Trump bump to last.  And I don't think it is about Republicans being panicky so much as Republicans being sick of politics as usual.  Unless Joe Biteme jumps in on the Democrat side you have a choice there between an avowed socialist and the queen of the privileged set.  I strongly suspect her support comes because until lately she seemed a shoo-in and everybody likes a winner.  But she isn't Bill and simply does not have his gifts for saying and doing the right thing at the right time.  She has the personality of a moldy dishrag.  And even the MSM is having a hard time ignoring her many faults.

i also suspect many Republicans are, like I, sitting back and enjoying the spectacle and waiting until the field gets whittled to a reasonable number before engaging.  There are a couple who I'd rather not get the nomination, but IMHO, other than Trump just about any of them would be better than the current POTUS or any of the Dem wannabes.

I think what you are seeing with Trump is the anti-politician.  The majority of people are fed up with Washington.  Both parties double speak, say whatever is the prevailing wind for their base, and lie.   The main thing about Trump is that he has a thick skin and doesn't react to detractors.  This is not politcal theatre for him, he has alway been this way.  Is there any doubt in your mind, right now, what he would say to Putin, to China, to North Korea and Iran?  The right has been saying that they want a "business" approach to government - well if that is true, who better to provide it.  No matter what is said about him, he is a very successful businessman.  You may not like his style, but he is a successful.  Given the rest of the field, I'm not sure that he isn't going to stay a frontrunner.  He's shaking things up and my sensing is that what people want.

Unfortunately, I am afraid that the Democratic party is going to fold in on itself.  The majority of people don't trust Hiliary - probably for good reason.  I keep noting that her tone and her body language, and not just her vague answers are doing her in.  I personally think she is damaged goods.  I like some things Bernie has to say, but he's going to have to detail where all the money for his government programs will come from.  And I don't think Biden will stand a chance if he runs. He's run before, he's a retread.  He's not far enough to the left to appease the extreme left.  Nice guy, but at the end of the day, he is part of the Washington establishment.  He was first elected to Congress at age 29.

Newt Gingrich today on Meet The Press rejected conventional wisdom and stated straight up that is is possible for Trump to win the nomination.  I still doubt it, but if he does emerge triumphant look for all the right wing stalwarts on this forum who have generally been poo-pooing Trump and his chances to suddenly discover that he is actually the ideal candidate, after all he does have an R after his name.

Need to explain to me why they would even have Newt Gringrich on Meet the Press.  That old has been has nothing interesting to say.

I too wonder why Meet the Press would still consider Newt a worthy guest.  I hope we are to the point that the number of people who consider Newt to always be the smartest man in the room has been reduced to 1!  Lord I miss Tim Russert!!

No I am not at all satisfied in the direction of the country, but most of the reason is because I HATE the gridlock caused by the fact both parties have been co-opted by their most extreme elrments.  Yes, President Obama has been the indirect and on occasion direct cause for some of it but he is far from the worst offender.  Further, I sure as he// don't want to see the country go the way that Trump or, for that matter, any of the other GOP contenders invision! I am not that crazy about the promises of any of the Democratic contenders either!

Me too.  Why anyone would listen to Newt is beyond me.  His reading of things is always wrong.  I guess he needs the money and maybe it is hard to find others in the summer.

I think that there may be a couple of things that both conservatives and liberals can agree on... we generally don't like the direction that the US is going in.   We don't like 'politics as usual', gridlocked decision makers, and the sorry lack of vision, intellect & statesmanship among our political class.

To me, Donald Trump is a cautionary tale.  He pretty much embodies the worst of us, all those least admirable characteristics of American politics lumped together.   He may be the anti-politician, but he is also the embodiment of the ugly American.   I agree he won't be the GOP nominee, but the fact that he is polling so well should make us really worry about ourselves.

You have to wonder if the consequences of unlimited campaign funding (AKA Citizen's United & the proliferation of huge PACs) simply means that any super-rich wacko could one day buy their way into the White House.     It's like someone posted a help-wanted flyer for the job of  most powerful leader in the world, with the tag line "No experience necessary".

I don't like the message of the Democrats, yet I am failing to find a Republican candidate that I trust to make things better.  There have been many things that Obama has done that I didn't agree with (health care isn't one of the them) but Congresses absolute refusal to work with him at all has totally turned me off.

BTW, understand Ben Carson was on Meet the Press too.  He couldn't answer the question whether he believes the Bible is above the Constitution.  And I would think that would be an easy question.

I believe Barack Obama is the poster boy for "no experience needed."

I like Ben Carson but can't get behind a candidate that "doesn't believe in evolution". When i heard that I didn't need to hear any more. Great man, very accomplished, but not my choice for POTUS.

Yep, hard to believe that a highly trained neurosurgeon doesn't believe in evolution.

Anybody see John Boehner on Feherty last night?  Asked if he would run for President, and he said, "I mow my own lawn, I wash and iron my own shirts, and do my own shopping, and I wouldn't give any of that up to become president".   The shirt that he was wearing didn't appear to be home washed-and-pressed, but it was an interesting answer.
