has anyone been paying attention to the EO's that Obama is putting forth regarding prisoners in prison.  First one was to make it cheaper for prisoners to make phone calls from prison.

Just watched interview with Lester Holt (NBC) & Obama--sounds like O is getting poised for a mass release of prisoners to "contribute to his legacy "

He issued a EO that federal managers will not be allowed to ask prospecitve employees about their criminal history.

My understanding that it is very similar to the EO for state employment recently issued by GA Gov Nathan Deal (certainly no Obamanista). In the initial interview a prospect cannot be asked about criminal convictions since knowledge of such a past would likely cause him or her to receive no serious consideration regardless of qualifications.  If the prospect advances to the point of being a finalist for a position then the criminal record would be fair game.

Obama has indeed ordered the release, with a judge's review and approval, of about 6000 federal prisoners who were sentenced, at the time of their conviction, to a longer term would be required under current sentencing guidlines.  With only a few exceptions, those released will have already served more time than they would if they were being sentenced today.  Sounds like good old fashioned American fair play and Christian charity to me and not a bad legacy.  Be fair folks and read the fine print please.

I don't have a problem with him having cases reviewed and releasing people that perhaps were "over sentenced".  But I'm afraid I belong to the school of not making prison too comfortable for prisoners.  As they used to say "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime".  I guess I see some of this as Obama pandering to a certain element of the African-American community.  In about 10 years, it would be interesting to see some stats on how many of the 6,000 being released went on to productive lives and how many ended up back in jail.

These barely scratch the surface of his ongoing effort to create an imperial presidency.  He is going to bypass Congress and the courts on amnesty and climate change.  And you know what, we won't hear a peep from govt media, Democrats or left wing nuts because they like what he is doing.  But you wait, if a GOP president tries anything remotely the same the howls from all three will be deafening.

And why shouldn't he?  He has violated so many federal laws that he thinks he is above the law.  Look at all the changes he made to Obamacare over the years without actually amending the law.  Look at what EPA has done and so on.  He plans to spend the last year of his presidency mandating like he is king and we are his subjects and neither the courts nor Congress will do a dam thing about it because they don't want to be called racists.

What is most distressing to me is, where are the Republicans?  They control both the House and Senate and yet do nothing except give Obama what he wants.  And yet we have people on this forum and throughout the land that complain about the obstructionists Republicans.  Can anyone give me a list of Obama's failed endeavors because of the Republicans?

There are none and I too find it distressing.  They are so afraid of being accused of causing gridlock that they are paralyzed.  I would like to take comfort in the fact that the next GOP president will simply vacate all of Obama's illegal EOs and will reign in the out of control agancies like EPA, DOJ, EEOC, etc. but I am not all that optimistic they would do so.  What this really comes down to is a shift in power toward the executive branch.  I suspect that will only change with a GOP president when the govt media, Democrats and left wing nuts find their hypocritical voices.

I watch an interview with Charles Koch.  It seems he is a big supporter of prison reform and has worked with the WH on this.  Who knew? And he is one of the biggest donors to the RNC.

I am not sure they donate to the RNC but they do support a lot of conservative and liberatarian candidates and various PACs.  They are a convenenient target of the left to demonize the rich and any politican they support.  As if Soros, Gates, Steyer, etc. don't exist.  As a libertarian it doesn't surprise me that they are working on prison and sentencing reform or with the Obama administration.  My company does a lot of work with Koch and they are pragmatic, ethical, hard working businesspeople very focused on creating value for their customers, employees and shareholders.

According to the story about this EO on NPR yesterday, monitoring will be a part of this EO and most of those released will still have to report to correction officers on a regular basis. Details of how these provisions will be carried out was not discussed.

Yes, Charles Koch talked about that very thing in his interview this morning.  I believe he said that he is not supporting any particular candidate at this time, but donating funds to conservative causes.  He spoke at length about the work ethic.  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the interview.

I am by no means an expert on prison or what happens when they leave, but don't most of them have to report to a probation officer for some length of time if they get out early?  Isn't that SOP?

As soon as the last Gitmo denzen is released to go back killing our boys I will bet you that O will give the base to Castro just as Carter did the Canal!

What is the difference between Adolph Hitler and Oboma?

Hitler did not intend to destroy Germany!

Gitmo should never have been started.  And now we are having to release people that probably shouldn't have been there to start with, because we can't figure out how to bring them to trial.  It was, and always had been a bad idea.

And if Obama was out to destroy America, don't you think he would have done it by now?  I mean, he's had 7 years and as near as I can tell, we're still ticking away.  And we're about to have another election with another group of lackluster candidates on both sides.

I believe you are right and that will be the case for most of these releases under the EO.

America has held hundreds of civilians without charges, without the right to appear before a judge and, for all practical purposes, without legal representation for as much as 13 years. America has secretly sent uncharged civilians to secret prisons overseas where their treatment is not known.  America has used torture to extract information from civilians including US citizens.  America should be ashamed.  If you don't agree with me talk to John McCain and Lindsay Graham.
