So we now know she was not only lying, she ws lying in a massive way about having classified emails go through her personal server.  I suppose the only good news is if we wanted to see all her deleted emails we can ask China, Russia, North Korea, etc.  Frankly if I were them I would keep it to myself and wait to see if she gets elected.  Then let the extortion begin.  She would be the most compromised President ever on the day she walks into the Oval Orefice where Bill stained the blue dress and inserted the cigars.  And this is the best the Democrat party can give us?  Sheesh.......

Okay, a minor clarification - State Department and others are saying that X number of messages contain potentially classified information.  In some cases they are retroactively classifying the messages.  This is a weird thing with classified information - it may be in unclassified publications yet still be considered classified.  I don't know how many of the messages she originated (and she would have had classification "authority", i.e. to mark something as classified).  If she is not the originator, the person that sent her the email would actually be the one at fault for not ensuring the document was properly classified.  Once they identify all the classified material, someone will have to make the determination to what extent national security has been compromised.  There are levels of this and making the determination can be a long drawn out affair.

Having said that, having any potentially  classified informtion on her unclassified server is bad.  Becasue it left the information open to hacking, monitoring, etc by foreign entitities.  Even if a particular piece is not really classified, it can be the missing piece to a bunch of other information that has been already obtained from other sources.  I really don't understand why any senior official, particiularly one in a sensitive national security position would use anything but an official classified server, because of the risks involved.

You know MM, I doubt there is anything there that can be used for exhortion purposes after this point in time.  but is is still not a good thing.  It's quite possible that she never thought to question whether certain information should be classified, but I find that difficult to believe,  especially given the access she had had to highly classified information in the past.  So in her case, I don't think "I didn't know" is going to cut it.  But the whole classification thing is so confusing and obscure to the average American, I doubt it will keep her from getting elected.  and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for some criminal legal action against her.  She is hardly the first.

Hound, you know as well as I that it was highly likely that she knew that information should not have been on unclassified machines.  For mere mortals like you or me it would have brought on a modern day crucifixion.  When we start counting the number of at least sensitive, and potentially classified...and even worse intelligence information in emails counted by the thousands it points to a pattern of utter disregard for national security.  That anyone could gloss this over is a sad testament to how far the nation and its political system has fallen into the depths of depravity.

Did you read my post? I said that I thought with her level of experience, she should have recognized what was classified and she should not have used an unclassified private server. What part do we disagree on? I honestly don't think the average American has any idea about classified versus unclassified and the harm that releasing classified information has on national security. Remember, a lot of people think that idiot contractor for the CIA that is now cooling his heels in Russia is a national hero for releasing classified data. You and I know better.

I think the Cretons that will vote for Hillary think it is much ado about nothing. I really don't think this is going anywhere; note I said I don't think it is going anywhere, I did not say that I didn't think harm has been done. If it were up to me, she should not be allowed to run until the impact on National Security has been assessed.

Actually I was agreeing with you and trying to point out that there is a huge gap between what happens to mere mortals who mis-handle classified information and those in positions of great power.  With Petraeus as an exception it seems like an inverse relationship between degree of punishment and position.  Pity the poor E-3 that forgets to properly stamp a classified document, then compare that with the pass someone like HRC is given.  As an example, There was an O-6 "fair haired boy" in the Pentagon while I was there who left a safe open for an entire weekend but still made it to two star rank.

On the extortion front, it really all depends on what was in the 30,000 deleted emails.  I firmly believe that she, Slick Willie and their daughter were running a pay to play operation while she was SOS using their foundation.  And that includes potentially illegal payments by foreign countries in exchange for her assistance, some of which we know about as a result of the Judicial Watch lawsuit (see years of revised tax returns for evidence).  Of course we don't know for sure about the rest of it because of the deleted emails.  But other countries that likely hacked into her server do and that is what worries me and should worry every American that actually cares about our national security.  What in fact would she be willing to do to avoid being compromised by those emails?  Given her track record I would say she would probably do almost anything.

On the classified email side of things, the question is not the extent of them necessarily but whether in fact she broke the law. From what I have read it seems to me that she did.  Will she be indicted?  I am very skeptical given the political nature of the Obama's DOJ.  But if she gets on his bad side he could loose the dogs and down she goes.  In a sane world an indictment should kill her chances but we are talking about the modern Democrat party here.  It could be for her a resume enhancer.  But I don't think it will play well with independents who already overwhelmingly don't view her as trustworthy or honest....and for good reason.  But as Hojda said, were she some lowly peon she would already be behind bars.  But as we saw with her husband, the Clintons seem for some reason to be above the law, sort of like corrupt third world dictators.  That Democrats put up with this says a lot about how far that party has fallen when it comes to morals and values.

I have no idea whether there was extortion going on while she was SecState or not.  The Foundation seems like it was pretty cozy with the UAE.

Is this what you think is illegal?

As far as classified information, yes, mere mortals would lose their security clearances and likely they job (because you need a security clearance to do the job).  If they didn't lose their job, they would get time off without pay.  And if it was determined that it was deliberate or had a significant impact on the U.S., there would be jail time.  I actually knew someone that knowingly showed classified information to a foreign national who was his friend, and was found guilty and sentenced to jail.

But I don't think she will ever be prosecuted for it.

No, no, what I mean is she will be open to future extortion because they have all her emails from the unsecured server, not just the ones she released.  While she was SOS she ran a money laundering operation through their foundation to take foreign money while granting favors to those governments.  Probably much worse than that in her emails.  But if they have them, and I would be shocked if they don't, they will use them.

As for her being indicted, I agree that it probably won't happen.  But she clearly violated federal law by having classified material on her unsecured server.  Far worse than Petraus' violation for which he was indicted for a felony and pled to a lesser charge.  She needs to win the WH or the next DOJ may in fact indict her.  Would be interesting to see if Obama pardons her if she loses.  There is so much antipathy between the Clinton's and the Obama's that he might not.....unless they have incriminating pictures of him and Reggie.  :-)

I just don't see Hilary being elected.  Come to think of it, I see polls almost daily on the Republican contenders, but I don't remember the last time I saw one on the Democrats.  I am so disappointed with the current field of candidates across the board.  I try to watch a broad spectrum of news shows every day, and I see Congresspeople and Governors interviewed who seem like good, sensible people, but those aren't the ones running.  I feel very discouraged about it.

But this is the same electorate that gave us Obama twice.  Anything can happen and as you know, the GOP has a way of picking bad candidates for president.........but I really hope you are right!
