 I know an few years ago Kennesaw Georgia passed a law if you lived in the city limits you had to own a gun. The vilolent crime rate dopped in the city of Kennesaw for I believe about 10 years. The bad guys knew if anyone happened to be home they were required to have a gun on the property and could be shot. This is a interesting fact that should be reviewed with the nation in my opinion. The bad guys will always have guns if they want to because laws don't mean anything to them. I guess you can tell them it's illegal to own a fire arm and watch them put it away (not) before they shoot you.

Used to live in Kennesaw and I can tell you the crime rate never went back up after they passed the law.  They never enforced it.  It was just a symbolic response to calls for gun control.  But crime rates did indeed drop when it was passed.

I know it is unrelated, that the attitude about guns is very different and the socio-economic demographic is in no way comparable, but it is still an interesting fact.  In Scotland 98% of the police officers do not carry a firearm even when called to a situation where guns are a possibility.  The last time a Scottish police officer died from hostile violent action in the fulfilling of his or her duties was in 1994. There is at this moment a delegation of US police officials in Scotland observing and trying to learn why almost no police / citizen confrontations in Scotland escalate to or end in a violent confrontation.

What are the crime rates in Scotland and what are the typical types of crime that are committed? It could be that they are not as violent a society as we are here in the United States. Also, you are comparing a country that is about the size of one of our states and its population is probably not near as diverse as what we must deal with. I would think itt would be much easier to come to grips with crime when you are dealing with a much smaller group of people.

just about the time I begin to think you have a smidgen of a brain you come up with something like this.  Can you say DEMOGRAPHICS.  Scotland is a homogenous society with very few of the criminal types that are so abundant in your home town of Atlanta.  Liberal dimokraps like you also make the same stupid statement about countries like Finland, Japan, and Switzerland too.  Since you live in one of the crime capitals of the world, I'm really surprised you would post such a stupid statement.

 Once again he is upset that no one posted they whole heartedly agree with his post, imagine that. I think they should send a delegation from Scotland to the United States and show our Police forces how to handle the demograghics that we live in. Then again they may be a little overwhelmed with the right to protect ourselves with our own firearms. Just a thought that as bad as you hate everyone here other than the extreme left maybe you would like Scotland better to live in then again maybe not.

Would someone with the time and inclination inform Archy that what the delegation will likely find is that  the major isues of difference are both of scale and governance; Scotland has a pop of 5.3 million and their major urban areas are NOT governed and controlled by democrats............ ;-]

I began my post with the caveats that the facts from Scotland bore little relationship to our situation and that the Scot's attitude towards gun were likely very different than ours and that the social aspects of their population are certainly different.  Still, it is interesting that a group of US police officials are interested enough to try to learn more.

No, Glasgow (a rather diverse city BTW) and Edinburgh have Socialist municipal governments.

It is amazing how this bunch is so paranoid that when someone puts up a factual post strictly as information with no editorial comment and no attempt or claim to try to tie it to the day to day BS typical of this forum, it becomes just anoither excuse for some of you to resort yet again to over the top generalizations, false accusations, and name calling.
