Lots of the "true believers" on this forum have made a big issue of thr fact that in the southern states the GOP primary turn out has been much higher than the Democratic.

Now comes LA...9000 more Democratic votes were cast than Republican, Hillary receives 97,000 more votes than Trump and 108,000 more than Cruz, Hillary gets 11,000 more votes than Cruz and Trump combined,  LA elected a Democrat as Governor last year,  The outgoing GOP guv has left the state treasury in such a crisis that, unless the GOP legislature agrees to raise the sales tax by by 1% the state university system will have to close for the next semester or raise tuition by thousands of dollars, and, worst of all, if LSU shuts down for a semester the football team will not meet NCAA attendance requirements and will not be allowed to play this fall!

What Bobby Jindahl has done to Louisana is shameful.  It wouldn't surprise me if the entire state voted Democratic in repudiation of the mess he has made.

Couldn't be that Katrina (special ordered by W) drove a good many of the producers of that state to other locals and what was left behind ghettos full of gubment dependants who will naturally vote for check(self) preservation. Nah, didn't think so.

To even repeat that part about no football at LSU next fall is ridiculous.

The Gov at the time of Katrina was Blanco a Dem. Jindal served after her and he was a Rep. Edwards a Dem was elected in 2012. So, your theory of Dems only in LA is incorrect. Jindal left the state in horrible shape and that is why the current Gov is a Dem.

Three times as many of what you would call "Takers" (gubment dependent folks) left and didn't return than what you would call "Makers" (White folks)!!  How in he!! do you think a white man was elected mayor of NOLA.  Of course thousands of those "takers" are now very productive citizens of Atlanta, Houston and Nashville.  Tow of then run 2 of my favorite Atlanta eatin joints!

Well I repeat it again and you can weep.  Sure, it is probably a stick to get the Rethuglicans in Baton Rouge off their a$$es.  Hope it works!!

The takers had to leave, because their homes were destroyed and they didn't have any insurance to rebuild.  The "haves" stayed and rebuilt, reopened their businesses and created jobs.

I wonder if Houston is having a bit of "buyer's remorse" for taking in so many of the Katrina refugees.

Good question.

I don'r

t know about Houston, but my understanding in Atlanta they are looked on as a net plus.  I have a hard time understanding how so many can be so cavalier, heartless and unsympathetic about people who have lost what little they ever had.  They may not be saints, but they are human beings.   Guess maybe I am a bleeding heart "liberal" and if that is what it makes me then l wear the designation proudly!

What they went through was horrible.  It would be horrible to lose your home, have no money to rebuild it and have to move to a strange city to put their lives together again.  I don't lack in empathy for the human side of it.  But, many of those were dependent on public assistance - and that likely just moved from New Orleans to Houston, Altlanta and other cities.

I am not thinking of you Hound.  You have demonstrated your humanity through your posts many times.   I know a few people who have no empathy or sympathy for anybody and I suspect Trump and at least one of the above posters falls into that category.  I know there are many who are "gubment dependents in ghettos" receiving public assistance (welfare, food stamps, medicaid) because they are "worthless and lazy and takers" and choose to milk the system, but not a few are there because it is the only way they can survive.  That is especially true for food stamps and medicaid where a majority of the receipients either go to work everyday, are looking for the chance to do so or have an actual disability preventing their working.

A GREAT book about this is "Uncle Sam's Plantation" by Star Parker. I've seen her interviewed on several shows and have heard her story. It is quite compelling. Government assistance is supposed to be just that...assistance during a severe financial downturn. Too often it becomes a lifestyle. I've seen it first hand. Unfortunately, the TRULY needy and TRULY disabled often get penalized for the actions of the "lifestyle" folks. Obviously it would be helpful to bring back manufacturing jobs and promote trade-schools. What ever happened to those, anyway? Also, as long as there are "jobs that American's won't do", those Americans should be "weaned" from Government financial aid...if, of course, they are physically able to work. There should be no job beneath anyone that has a family to support or to be self sufficient. As I heard someone once say, "America is suffering from the death of shame!"

I think your points are excellent and I am in basic agreement.  I am not as impressed with Star Parker.  I have not read her book, but have seen some of her comments.  The fact that she depends on Hannity and Lush Windbag for positive support speaks volumes.  She has made it "off the plantation" and now thinks every one still there should be able to do the same and it is only Massa Guvment keeps then under.  Life don't work that way Star!  For every Star Parker and Dr. Ben Carson there are thousands of single moms with 4 kids having to try to get by working at cleaning out the Day's Inn or flipping burgers at Krystal for $8.00 an hour.  There is a lot wrong with government assistance including it's being given to lots of undeserving worthless slugs, but don't blame the victims for accepting it when they need it to survive.

Your "observation" are as misplaced as your political beliefs.  NO problems stemmed from decades of dimokrap politics that included non-functional pumps to keep the city from flooding.  Remember NO suffered a flood from Lake Ponchatrane and the industrial canal, not a hurricane..NO was west of the eye.  The dimokrap mayor, Ray Nagen is now a convicted felon in prison for his crooked dealings before, during, and after Katrina.  Nagen was responsible for much of the loss of life because he refused to evacuate the city.  Hundreds of school busses were flooded sitting in the parking lot instead of evacuating NO citizens.  The dimokrap governor was a total imbecile throughout the process and didn't even run for re-election.  As to the vote in the primaries going strongly dimokrap, LA has always been dimokrap for obvious reasons....welfare.  I just love stupid comments from liberals who know absolutely nothing about facts.  Oh, BTW the wizard mayor of Houston who agreed to accept all the welfare dimokraps from NO, suffered a crime wave from his wonderful new refugees, and didn't get re-elected.
