Can someone explain to me why Kasich isn't being embraced by Republicans?   To an outsider, it looks like he would be the logical default choice since the #1 and #2 candidates are so flawed.  Is there something in this guy's history that makes him unacceptable to the conservatives?

He might just become the nominee.  Then, if all hexx does not break loose, he might just win.  He seems to be level headed, has some decent history (but some not conservative enough experience), is a gentleman and would make a great President.  I know it will be tough, and Trump ultra enthusiasts will not understand, but it would be a good outcome.  I am not sure he can get the party back together again.

But, to answer your question:  Because someone like you thinks he would be a good candidate.

Well, that may be part of the answer.   Not conservative enough, but on what issues?

But as to your last barbed point.....I disagree... either Trump or Cruz would our preference.  It was a sincere question, I was just asking because refusing to consider Kasich seems so illogical.   He seems pretty conservative to me, plus he has the advantages of being civil & reasonable.   Maybe that's his problem.

No, it is a matter of who his friends are, and who thinks he is ok.

Which is why I cannot let go of Trump.  Enough Old School, Run of the Mill, I am in politics for life, the regular public be damned, I am going to make them think this is for them, Bail Out, Give Out folks in Washington can't stand Trump that that gives me reason to support.

Kaisich would make an excellent President, because he would deal with issues and come down in a spot that neither extreme would like.

Still not clear what the problem with this candidate is.   Who are his friends, and who does he think is OK?  It must be a very significant betrayal of conservative values in the minds of GOP voters.... but exactly how does this guy depart from the positions you think are important?

He doesn't depart from the issues I think are important, but I am not extreme, or at least try not to be.  I would like to see the murder of babies ended, but neither Trump or Kasich will seek that, and Cruz is way down on my list.  I would like to see spending under control, from GOP and DEM.  Kasich will approach that with reason, Trump will chop, and Cruz and way down on my list.  Not sure that anyone can come up with gun control plan that will handle the problems we have.  Kasich gave in on some and that does not fly well.

Strong extreme conservatives feel like the liberal shift is not good for the country.  There are fewer workers to pay for the Take Cares, and those working feel the pinch, because that is where the Give Awayers look for money.  Sure there are rich people, who know the rules, know the power brokers, have control of our politicians, but taking all their money away will not solve our problems of ownership and responsibility.  You Owe Me is the tone of today.  Trump is a powerful voice of the This Has Gone Too Far crowd.  Kasich's "I was in Washington and worked with Reagan and Clinton" and "I balanced budget in Ohio" is a good trait but pales to "We gonnal build a Wall".  Will the wall crowd come around and support a brokered Kasich or Ryan?

Kasich is nobody's "perfect" candidate, so he doesn't get the attention he deserves.

As to Ryan being chosen in a contested convention, such a move would be bad.  Right now he is two heartbeats from being president anyway (if O croaks, Joe Biteme becomes pres, and if he were to croak the Speaker of the House is next in line, then the President ProTem of the Senate).  I am confident I am not telling you anything new, but some of the other forum members might need a reminder.  BTW, when I was on active duty I spent three years with NEACP- also known as the Doomsaday Jet.  One of the things we did was get constant updates on the location of the VP, Speaker, and PresProTem.....just in case something drastic happened and we had to figure out who the pres was and where to go pick him up.

That's a grim reminder of a reality very few people have to spend a lot of time contemplating, and probably so troubling that most of us avoid it in our own way.    Dem or Rep, It's those people we have to count on to keep the world together in the event of a crisis.  Frankly, I'd rather have someone who is not trigger-happy, but really deliberate & thoughtful in each of those offices.

Back to Kasich, I'm getting the impression that the simple fact that he has worked in various gov offices over his career is disqualifying to the majority of GOP voters.... as if he was somehow tainted by those experiences instead of being informed & improved by them.   Not conservative enough has come to mean something completely contrary to common sense, like a job ad that says "Got experience? Need not apply...."

Simple answer:  Kasich is an "establishment Republican".  If he is nominated conservatives will stay home and Hilda will win.  Doesn't matter what he says, how he smiles, how he stays above the krap.....he is establishment.

That's too bad because nothing is absolute, to include establishment politicians being all bad.  I have watched Kasich for quite a few years and he comes across as a reasonable person who is not afraid to step out and do an unpopular thing if it is the right thing to do.  This "All or nothing" approach, I am sorry to say, has not worked for the Republican Party.

I think in the beginning Kasich wasn't getting much traction because he was the least spoken of all the candidates.  His numbers  were so low, he  was lucky if he got one question during the debate.  I'm not so sure if he isn't being used a bit by the RNC as part of the stop Trump movment.  I agree that he seems to be a reasonble candidate, but I wonder if he has the strength to stand up to Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to do what is right.  He wants big cuts in Social Security and Medicare, so I'm sure that is not pleasing to many seniors.

He'd probably be an okay President by I think he capacity for greatness is limited.

After the latest abortion of a presidency I am not sure a mediocre president would be so bad.

@ wix

Yes.

If you are Trump you are not for sale.  Ron Paul, and maybe even Rand Paul & Jeff Sessions are not for sale.

All the rest, including Kasich, not on the above list.

Hillary is the opposite.  A broker for whatever is on her server.  Everything for sale.

Hillary - Everything for sale????  Dang man, my eyes are burning, and there has not been enough aloe or saline solution made to fix that....

For 50 years our choices for most candidates have been politicians--never again will I vote for a politician-time to try a businessman--despite his flaws he at least knows how to budget & reduce our out of control debt --basically we're in Chapter 7

He'll definitely be better than Hilary or Bernie.

I guess that is why I still like Trump.  He's not going to pander to either side.  We won't love a lot of things he says or does.  I think he will listen to the experts, but he'll make his own decisions.  And of course, once he is in office, he will be schooled by events.  I think he will be much more hands on than what we've had for the last 8 years.
