In a flashback to the 1960s, Democrats have decided to have a "sit in" until they get to vote on some kind of gun bill.  First of all, they are sitting in on the tax payers dime  Secondly, who is going to help them get up off the floor?  Most of them are not that young.

And - heaven be! - they may continue to sit during their upcoming "break".  Don't you have to be doing something to take a "break".  I think it is more like they'll just stay in Washington doing the same thing that they have been doing - NOTHING!

They are protesting our right to own firearms in a building where they are securely protected by folks with firearms.

I saw one picture where the floor sitting participants all had paci's in their mouth.

Be honest...the fight is NOT against owning firearms. It is about CONTROL and BACKGROUND CHECKS not elimination which is quaranteed and you know it. As an owner, I would never support elimination of firearms.

How can it be about background checks?  We already have background checks.  Every time you buy a gun, they run it through the FBI and a live person approves or disapproves it.

"Private sellers without a federal license don’t have to meet the same requirement. Though this exception is often referred to as the "gun show loophole," it actually applies more broadly to unlicensed individuals, whether they are selling at a gun show or somewhere else." This is one of the major items that the gun control lobby wants to change and the majority of Americans support it.

The majority of NRA members support expanded background checks.  As for prohibiting sales to those on the No Fly List, the most recent poll showed that Republicans (90%) were the strongest supporters!  Do you think the No Fly List should become a No Buy List as well Hound?  Since you have thrown in with the Republicans and their new messiah do you also join them in there their support of this completely reasonable gun restriction?

A friend of mine went into a gun store to purchase a pistol. He was dating a girl who works for the ATF. He filled out the paperwork and while he was waiting for the back ground check to be done, his phone rang. "Nice gun " his girl friend said! And they say we dont check purchasers out?

Seems common sense that if there is enough suspicion that we say Mohammed can't fly to a jihadist reunion in St. Louis Then he should've be able to buy a gun to take with him in his car to the reunion either.  Am I missing something here...I mean besides Wayne LaPierre thinks he and his Glock should be good to go?

No one says we don't check gun purchasers. At least post the facts. Those buying guns like your friend at a Federally licensed gun dealer are checked. If I sell you a gun there is no check. Don't you agree everyone who buys a gun should go through a background check like your friend?

To me the problem is Reactionary Politics.  It is our SOP.  We need some visionary, forward thinking leaders to pass some laws that would make a difference, or enforce the ones we have.  What law being considered now would have protected us from the Orlando shooter more than had the FBI done its job in the first place?  Should the guy have been on a list?

It will be hard to ferret out the San Berandino, Orlando, Sandy Springs, Charleston, Daily Chicago shooters, and the decision has to be made "are were ready to give up some of our privacy rights for protection?"

An overall plan is way overdue.  Do we have leaders that will put the movers and shakers in a board room and make them iron out some policies that have a chance?  No.  Will we get one? Maybe

Current laws being pushed would not have stopped Orlando.  Perhaps realizing that we have radicals among us who want us dead will.   All we get are hearings and last minute bills that are reactionary.

Short of owner registration of all guns in the USA, there is no way to control the movement of guns from owner to purchaser, and we all know registration goes against 2d amendment.  The NRA fights every movement toward registration by liberals as well they should.  How many guns are in the US.....no one knows, that's the way it should be.  I read recently that Smith & Wesson was celebrating the one millionth Shield pistol produced.  The Shield has only been in production a few years....point is, there are hundreds of millions of guns owned in the US, and the politicians have no clue who owns them, what types they are, etc.....records have never been kept.  I own two guns that were my grandfather's that are well over 100 years old, and I still shoot them.....these guns, along with the rest of my guns will be passed to my children and grandchildren....and it's none of da gubment's business.....many, many folks can say the same thing.

I have said this before...if we could just keep the dimokraps from getting guns the murder rate in America would be reduced by 78.7%.  Guns don't kill anyone, liberals do!

Our wise founding fathers poisoned the well as a last defense against any tyrant trying take over America by arming it's people. Armed people cannot be enslaved but this only works if the government doesn't know where they are. Every tyrany starts with weaopn confiscation and it is always "for the safety of the people."

I couldn't agree with you more.  Yes, I have no problem with closing the gun show loophole.  But how would you prevent a private sale from happening?  You know the kind that takes place in the 'hood out of the back of someone's car.   Most of the guns that were used in mass killings were legally purchased in a gun store.  I could support preventing people on the do not fly list from buying guns, but there needs to be a quick appeals route for those that have been falsely identified.  There is currently an appeals process, but it takes a very long time, since the agents assigned to that function were moved to looking at new buyers.  What I am against is knee jerk and feel good legislation, and political theatre.  If I thought that doing stricter gun control would stop the killings, I'd sign up in a heartbeat.  But the killings are just a sign of a larger issue.

and BTW, I understand that Germany is rethinking their open arms policy for refugees.  Seems it was better as an idea than a reality.
