why am I not happy about it?  Because she didn't earn it.  She has been set up to be the Democratic nominee, she didn't have to fight her way through a field of men, and come out the best.  It's not winning when it is just handed to you.  Like her Secretary of State position, Obama just handed it to her as part of political pay off. She didn't earn it.  And the DNC just handed her the nomination - she didn't have to beat Bernie Sanders, because the DNC had already decided she would be the candidate.  If not for being Bill Clinton's wife, she would never have had a political career.  She was just about handed her Senate Seat, without having worked for it.   Obama beat her fair and square, but then handed her the SECSTATE position as a payback.

Real equality happens when a woman can compete with men on the same platform, and win.  Not by using her connection and political favors to win.  And that's why I am not happy.

\Summarily dismissing HRC's work like that sets women back.  It fits with the narrative that women don't earn what they have, they manipulate men to get it.   Reall poor form, but in complete agreement with lots of male sexist rhetoric... too bad it had to come from the only woman on the forum.

I'm sure that will be a shock to the many women I know that participate on the forum,. Including me! I'm identifying as a woman these days because I find women's restrooms cleaner and more appealing in  most cases.  Plus having to share a room with all those aggressive men really triggers me.  Not girly men lime you and arch but real men.  You know,  like the ones that post here.

And the other "too bad" - that what she says is true.

I am a woman and a lawyer and don't post here often, but felt obligated to do so after Copper's ridiculous post.  Though I don't post often, and have not always agreed with Tulullahhound through the years, she is SPOT ON in her analysis.

On the contrary, I have helped other women my whole career. But I have seen more than my share who have manipulated men, used the EEO system to get things handed to them that they didn't earn.  That is not equality.  Equality happens with accomplishments are recognized and women who have earned their promotions and appointments.  There are women out there who have done this and they legitimately broke the glass ceiling.  But Hilary is not one of them. Hilary is nothing more than an opportunist who got her way by political manipulation and threats.  She is not the most qualified woman to be nominee.  Elizabeth Warren has done far more than Hilary; Janet Yellan has done more than Hilary.  Hilary and Bill have made their money giving speeches and writing self promoting books, and coming up with a foundation, which no one is sure what it does.  At least Trump has earned his wealth.

I think that when you assert that HRC got where she is because of the generosity (perhaps the sexual interests?) of the men around her and not because of her ability & intellect, you are saying something that is essentially unprovable.  But, coming from a woman, that opinion has a greater validity in the minds of people who would agree that women aren’t as capable as men.   It validates the sexist narrative,   ‘Women don’t get ahead because of their ability, it’s because men gave them what they have and made it easier for them”.

And that is an unfounded allegation, supported only by the traditions of sexism.

In my opinion, if someone is given a job they aren’t qualified for… then they fail at that job and don’t get a do-over.   Their performance is evaluated and becomes part of their resume.   Clinton’s work history is extremely impressive whether it was as a children’s advocate attorney, the First Lady organizing a children’s health care initiative that continues today, as a Senator addressing the healthcare needs of NYC first responders, or as Secretary of State.   But since she was married to Bill Clinton,  people can always raise the idea that she got ahead because of her sexuality/relationships with powerful men and not her ability.   It can’t be disproved that being a Clinton was an aid to her career in some ways… but when it comes to her job performance, she was definitely sitting at her own desk without some guy telling her what to do.

I think the women I know would not want to have their careers disparaged by the allegation that they got there because men made critical allowances that tolerated their lack of professional ability, ‘hormonal mood swings’, and lack of toughness.    But there are plenty of men out here who already believe just that.

And now, it seems, a few women.

So copper, not only did you play the race card but now the sexism card.  That is really weak.

I have often thought we needed a Condoleeza Rice for President, and I would vote for her over Hillary.  I would vote for Herman Cain, Alan West, Ben Carson, Elizabeth Dole, or Nikki Haley over Hillary.  I don't give a damn what color a person's skin might be or what that person may or may not have " down there".  What I care aBout is that person's character and ability to lead.  The crap that Hillary has done far outweighs any benevolent acts.  I have said before that if it is a choice between Hillary and Trump I will hold my nose and vote for Trump.  The thought of voting for Hillary would necessitate a giant barf bag.

Woodboat, welcome to the Off Topic. I envy your collection of wooden and fiberglass boats. I remember you posted sometime ago that you had a collection in a warehouse.

I was wondring if you categorize everyone that you disagree with as an idiot? If so, you may want to stay on the Lake Martin Forum rather  than Off Topics. We disagree quite often and it appears it maybe be tough for you to handle. CALM DOWN NO NEED TO SHOUT.

Join in the fun just don't take it too serious.

Counselor, I'd say you are arguing against logic and your own self-interest.

Imagine what your reaction would be if you were passed over by a client or a prospective employer because, in their minds, they were "looking for a real attorney", and not a female one.

Regarding holding your nose and voting for Trump, I have an extra pair of vice-grips I can loan you.   You are really gonna need them.

All you have said is you would vote for a Republican before you would vote for Hillary. Would you vote for anyone on your list if they were a Democrat running against Trump.

Tagging on to your "in my opinion" statement, I will offer my opinion. In my opinion, if you are given the job as Secretary of State as Hilary was and you fail, you certainly don't need to be given the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

Failure is your opinion. Nothing more nothing less. My opinion differs but still just an opinion.

I fully understand that an "opinion" is just that, an "opinion. Just letting Copperline know that my opinion of Hilary is different from his opinion.

Ah so!  I had a very successful career, but not because anyone handed anything to me.  That's why it irritates me to see Hilary making the claims.  I know a lot of women with successful careers, who competed with men and it didn't have anything to do with sex, manipulating men, or playing political games.  They worked like dogs, became experts in their field and their successes were based on their accomplishments.

I think women like Hilary cheapen the accomplishments of  women who have worked for it.  She accomplished nothing in the Senate.  She was a terrible Secretary of State and she will be a terrible President.  It's a myth that she is so qualifed.
