I did not pay much attention to the Oxford Economics forecasting firm's estimate for the economy with Trump and Clinton...Trump = recession vs Clinton = slow but steady growth, but now an architect friend who is in the prime of his career vs me moving into partial retirement, says he received an email over the weekend from a client planning a $600,000 plus home addition / renovation telling him to stop work on the project until after the election and that the project would go forward only if Clinton wins.  He was working for the same client in 2012 on a earlier house during the run up the election and they had several discussions about the race.  In 2012 the client was openly supporting Romney.

Either your friend's client can afford a $600,000 plus addition to his existing house or he can't.  Who the next president is won't matter.  Or did I just totally miss the point of your post?

This same rhetoric is heard every election cycle. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Archie would move mountains with an ice pick and dust pan if he thought it would bolster his argument.  Would be amusing if it weren't so pathetic.

Nope, I get it.   My read on financial experts is that Trump presents the markets with tremendous uncertainty.  His stated... sometimes offhand... comments have to be taken as warnings of what he MIGHT do.   Remember, this guy has already said he would consider defaulting on the US debt, dismantle long established trade deals, put 11 million people into internment camps, and fundamentally change strategic defense alliances with countries that are our major trading partners.

Those are the revolutionary steps his supporters think they want him to accomplish.   Since the market is recovering but undeniably weak, I expect Trump could kill it.

While no one knows what the market will do... and it is normal that Presidential election years are more unpredictable.... what we do know for sure is that the Stock Market hates uncertainty.  Markets go down in times of political upheaval coupled with uncertain changes in economic policies....... And Donald Trump is uncertainty in spades, he even boasts that he WANTS to be unpredictable.

No other presidential candidate in modern history has been so irresponsible with their campaign rhetoric and injected this much uncertainty into global markets.   The whole world is watching, and getting ready to react if Trump is elected.   That level of fear is not good for markets, IMO.

As POTUS, the uncertainties of Trump will likely cause great disruption in the markets where confidence is a critical driver of its direction.      I am reviewing my investments to look for ways to protect myself as well.

That said, I am not sure that there is any way to find protection from a cataclysm like Trump could create.

Congress runs the country not POTUS.  Has Obama gotten anything done with the Republican congress, nope.

His biggest concern should be the Feds hiking interest rates, not POTUS.

Even Architect stated that the government has little if anything to do with the economy.  Right now the economy is slow due to slowing of growth worldwide and especially China.

POTUS has almost gotten to the point of being a figurehead (i.e., full time golfer and vacationer), but also the one who must have the intestinal fortitude to make the hard decisions.

His best bet is to start the addition and hope that Trump wins and overturns Obamacare.

I guess he will not need the new house if he is moving out of USA if Trump wins.

I'm really looking forward to the great Exodus when Trump becomes POTUS.

I think you are vastly under-estimating the impact that a President can have on the economy by what he says & does.   In fact, it's a little ironic to hear a conservative dismiss the position of President as so impotent after 7 years of saying how alarmed they were because Obama was damaging the country.   Maybe you don't exactly mean what you were saying.

It's another contradiction in the conservative mind-set........

His point is, if a trump is elected he sees the economy, including real estate values, going back into the crapper and he has no interest in having over a million bucks in a house that is suddenly only worth $700,000! He may be able to "afford" it but he is not an idiot.

Nobody I know is planning on moving if Trump wins..I think his plan is like that of most of us if this idiot is elected...just hunker down for 4 years until sanity return to the American electorate.  Who know, maybe us "leftist" will start looking at "revolutionary" alternatives just as Gov Bevin of KY has suggested may be required if Hillary wins.  Can you imagine what Trump and his cadre would say if Gov Cuomo of NY made the statement that Bevin did except basing it on a Trump win?  The lack of reaction to the ravings of Republicans,  even in the "liberal" media, demonstrates that the "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" philosophy applies to only one side of the spectrum.

Aka hypotheticals created by Archie for the purpose of demeaning anything outside his radical left wing agenda.

The only "hypothetical" was the possibility of Cuomo doing something "hypothetically" that his KY counterpart had already done in "fact".

Funny how the Donald's "hypotheticals" are taken as as common sense facts by his supporters and anybody else's are taken as nonsense at best, un-American at worst.

The left takes all of Hillary's hypotheticals and her lies and acts like it is manna from heaven.  And heaven forbid that someone say something good about Trump or that he should be right about anything.  And most of the time, the Democrats are outraged by his style, rather than substance.

Did you see that the U.S. accidently made 800 people that were scheduled for deporation, American Citizens the other day? And Obama and Hillary want to take 110,000 more refugees next year, while another Muslim detonated bombs in NJ and NY?  Seriously, with no real way to tell how refugees are as they come into the country, do you really think it is smart to take 110,000 new people in, the majority of which will be Muslims? I'm not down on Muslims per se, a lot of drs. came to this country from Muslim countries, and I'm sure most of them never thought to create a bomb or blow anything up.  But there were the pair a couple of years ago that bombed the Boston Marathon and they were immigrants who had been radicalized.  I don't know about you, but when I am going to embrace someone, I want to know who I am embracing.

Then I guess he needs to be seriously considering selling his existing home before the bottom drops out.

So you feel completley safe embracing Donald Trump?

I only have to choices - to embrace Donald or embrace Hillary.  I feel a lot more like embracing Donald than embracing Hillary at this point in time.

''At this point in time''.  Maybe I shouldn't have given up on you just yet, maybe there is still hope for you!

What I meant was in this election cycle. You can give up on me for this election cycle.

Then if Trump is elected, I think the Democrats can count on you being back in the fold in 2020 unless the GOP wakes up and tosses his arrogance out on his fanny before a 2d term run.  The smart money is saying a Pres Trump WILL be a disaster for you and me and the entire planet!
