I wonder how many of those who are just up in arms over this have ever built a house / building?

you get to design the building with that person who makes the drawings --- cant remember what to call those right now for some reason.

It goes out to contract / bid.

you stand back and watch it go up - as the person with the name on the building, owner or person having a house built - who has specifically stated make sure to use Yella Wood for the studs.....let alone it has to be pine from virgin forest inhabiting a southern alabamastan forrest.

contracters build it as cheep as possible so that they can make that evil profit.

That is why unless you specify it your not going to get Delta faucets or your favorite low flow envronmentally composting toilet - which was probably also made in China btw.

I think we would agree that, all things being equal, we would all prefer to buy products made in the USA. However, if you own a company and must compete with other companies for contracts, it is only logical that you must shop the market for the products you need to complete a project. For the most part, trade agreements between countries will determine whose products will be in the most demand. It is hard to be critical of a company that is trying to survive in todays business environment.

I'm not really sure why this would be Trump's fault.  He's a real estate developer - not the architect or the head engineer.  I'm sure he is not the only one utilizing Chinese steel.  You know, we had a chance to stop all of this years ago - the job drain to offshore workers.  But at the time companies said they needed to use cheap labor sources to stay in business, and we all went along with that.  Because Americans like cheap.  If we cared about jobs, we wouldn't have let it happen.  I honestly don't believe that Trump can bring those jobs back - what will bring those jobs back will be when foreign labor starts demanding higher wages and they unionize (or some thing that looks like a union).  But there is no reason we can't have smart trade agreeements and I think Trump would get those.  Hillary will not.  There is no existing proof that she can negotiate anything for the benefit of the U.S.

Been to Birmingham lately, been to Pittsburg lately.  The steel industry in the US died long ago....20 to 30 years, thanks to NAFTA and the emergence of China.  I worked in the steel industry just before it's failure and it is tough to see America going the same direction as steel.
