I'm not sure his answer was all that strange.  Obviously, he wasn't prepared for the question, so you got a sputtering response. But when you think about it, how many adults actually have heroes?  There are people that one admires for something they did. For example, I admire Mark Zuckerberg for coming up with FB and the various technological advance things he is working on.  But I wouldn't say he is a hero of mine.  I do not subscribe to the idea that everyone that serves in the miltary is a "hero", although there are a number of military members that have done heroic things.  One only need to look at the Hall of Heros (Medal of Honor winners) to know this.  But would one of their names roll off my tongue if I was asked?  No.

Couldn't agree more. I have stated it a few times on here that to call everyone that puts on a uniform, be it millinery, LEO, or formal, a hero diminishes those that really are. Are some heroes? No doubt they are. Do some others commit an heroic act while not living the life of a "hero" all the time, absolutely. Who one holds as a hero tells volumes about the person. I interviewed countless for for jobs over the years and asked each one other than your parents who is your hero. I always excluded parents because that is just to easy and a pat answer. I had a few folks tell me that was one of the toughest interview questions they were ever asked, especially older folks. Like you said, I think the older one gets the fewer we hold in that regard. I guess we get jaded somewhat with age. Lots of folks can name a hero, but naming one's own hero is a little tougher.

Perhaps he doesn't regard his father as a "hero" but someone he admired and from whom he learned a lot.  But, I still maintain that most people would be left sputtering if that question popped up out of the blue.  It's a politicians question, not a businessman's question.

You have a valid point.

Years ago I smoked a pipe...someone would ask me a question like that and I would say good point and I would fill my pipe why coming up with a response. Southerners are good at that cause because they speak slower than Yankees and can formulate a response.

He should have said I don't believe in heroes...As head of his own company he could say whatever he wanted. As a candidate he could say, and did say, whatever he wanted. However, as the leader of the free world he has to learn to speak in concise terms rather than ramble. As President, every word has meaning to an adversary or the stock market. He is no longer running for office...he is running the country...big difference. One may argue but he is not a politican...that will change on the 21st if he is planning on 2 terms.

Unlike those on here who wanted Obama to fail...I hope Trump is successful.
