Let's hope its not the beginning of another one......as for me I am cautiously optimistic but time will tell.  Strap yourselves in because I suspect we are in for a wild ride.

On a more optimistic note, despite the pockets of stupidity it is indeed a miracle that every four or eight years we peacefully transition executive power regardless of whether the change is from opposite ends of the ideological spectrum. I think we take this transition for granted and it is something we should be grateful for, proud of and fiercely protect.  And for those of you in despair trust me, we feel your pain.  But as we survived the last eight years, you will survive the next four or eight.  Hang in there!

I am hopeful, may there be a light at the end of several tunnels that have plagued our country between wars, economics and diversity.  Time will tell if he can live up to the ideals of some or deserving of the hatred from others.

If I hear one more time "Peaceful Transition of Power"      Phrase has been used a little too much.

America's power does not transition.  Our forefathers created that power with the Constitution and spread power around.  Protecting that Constitution is what maintains the peaceful power.

Hence the miracle of our country and I get your point.  However, I think anyone that takes that term too lightly takes that transition for granted.  I do not and will continue to marvel at our peaceful transition of power.

Yep....interesting speech and not what the establishment was expecting.  I can only imagine the tongue wagging at the luncheon.  Two observations.  First, I like that it was short.  Second, he never once referred to himself.  Obama would have referred to himself 30 times is a speech of that length.....and all in glowing terms.  Let the games begin.

Yup - news media was quick to point out that climate change has been scrubbed from the whitehouse website.

I think this was more media spin.  It feeds into the notion that people would rise up or the military would rise up to keep Trump from taking office.  We have a long history of peaceful tranisitions, so there was no reason to keep using this phrasology.  Flipping around the stations and the usual suspects are trying to find a way to cast a dark shadow on his speech.  Also making much of his failure to mention Hilary in the inaugural - why would he?  He acknowledged her at lunch.

I also noted that the liberal stations continued to follow Obama, not just getting on the helo, but their arrival at Andrews, his speech at Andrews and them getting on the airplane.  when have you seen that before?

My only other observation is that Trump doesn't seem to be enjoying the inaugural much.  Not much smiling going on.  At one point, right before he was sworn it, it appeared to me that it was starting to hit him that monentarily, he would be the President.  I'm sure it is a sobering thought.

Not sure what he's thinking but I saw someone talking about what it was like in a business meeting with him.  He came in, sat down and after about 30 seconds of pleasantries asked the person what he wanted to get out of some business deal they were negotiating.  The person told him, he thought about it and said that would work.  Pleasantly ended to meeting and left.  I suspect he is not much for all the pomp and circumstance and wants to get to work.  This may be a really interesting four years because as we know, Presidents doesn't control the circumstances they face and they think they will focus on one thing and the world throws them a curve.

As for the peaceful transition of power, it is indeed an amazing thing and one not to be taken for granted.  Especially when you look around the world today and in the past.  I for one am glad its over and am cautiously optimistic about the next four years.  Time will tell if that optimism is warranted.

of 4 years during which I hope he is successful fulfilling his promise to replace Obamacare with a better and cheaper plan. That he can reduce our taxes, improve our military, bring back good paying jobs, and rebuild the infrastructure.

If Trump can fulfill most of the promises you have listed, will you admit that the Democratic platform has not been responsive to the best interests of the American people?

I don't buy into the word "most". Rather, he made a deal of ALL his promises  and considering he has control of House and Senate I will consider anything less than achieving all his promises including a Mexico paid wall to be a failure. However, if he achieves all the promises I have listed than I will agree with your statement. I was a Republican and have no issue accepting Trump if he delivers.

He will have a cabinet with the highest IQ in history...and both House and Senate. If he fails, he will be just another failure like the  Right defines Obama. I want to see Trump implement his promises so he can raise his approval rating to the 60% like Obama enjoys as he leaves office.

I appreciate your response. Your statement that you "was" a Republican leaves me a little confused. While I know it is none of my business, I am curious what caused you to change parties. Tell me that it is none of my business and I will accept your response with no further questions. Just wondered if you changed with the beginning of Obama or for some other reason. I just find it hard to believe that someone as adamant as you were in your support of Hillary could have at some point in time been a Republican.

I ran in a primary for an Assembly seat in New Jersey as a Republican and won. I decided because of business reasons to drop out. My chance of winning the seat was close to zero as the District was overwhelming Democratic.

I voted for Bush 41 first term and then Clinton in 92 and have voted Dem ever since.

Thanks for your explanation. At this point, i guess we will both have to wait and see what the future holds.

Wow wix most excellant point - and his other favorite Bill Clinton also a failure.

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19960818&slug=2344764

only 66% of what he promised he did, but Obama failed on only 25% so Bill Clinton was a bigger failure.
