Are we in the "draw down year"?  Lake level is higher than last year at this time.  I've had  folks ask me this and I'm not sure how to answer.

They draw the lake down every year per the FERC permit.  The drawdown begins on Sept 1 and this is a 7-foot drawdown year.  Levels are up because of sufficient rainfall in the watershed and downstream to the Alabama River.

Next year is the scheduled 10' drawdown.  They use the secret decoder ring on Sept 1st to determine if we qualify for extended winter pool.

So Each year, they are alowed to lower lake levels starting Sept 1.  There is a thing called the Conditional Fall Extension, that if 4 conditions are met, they can maintain lake levels at summer pool through Oct 15.   CFE or not tho, after oct 15 the lake will start to drop.  You can read all the details right here https://apcshorelines.com/conditional-fall-extension-implementation-on-lake-martin/#sthash.7qhGLmU4.dpbs

The Periodic Drawdown is a different story, that happens every 6 years starting November 2021

Copied from the FERC License https://elibrary.ferc.gov/idmws/file_list.asp?accession_num=20151217-3024 page 82

"To the extent possible and in coordination with weather conditions, the licensee must lower the reservoir to elevation 481 feet msl every 6 years, beginning in 2021, between the third week of November and February 28, to enable the construction and maintenance of shoreline structures.  The licensee must provide public notice at least 30 days in advance of the draw down, and file documentation of the public notice with the Commission prior to the drawdown. "

So tomorrow's the day it begins.

Do any of y'all have an educated guess as to how we're looking this year? I'm wondering when it's going to get so low we won't want to go out in our boats? When are we going to want to pull the trigger on putting them up for this winter?
