I'm in the Kowaliga Bay Area and the water has a brown tint that is obviously not normal. Is it because of the quick rise after plug day?

Likely,  We've had a lot of rain, they just plugged the lake and there is a lot of debris floating around.  It's like this every Spring.

Thanks, I was hoping that was the reason.

It's the rainwe've been having although I have to admit this year is far worse than I can ever recall.  Usually clears up but the rains just keep coming.

Sandy Creek is the worst ever.  Downtown Dadeville got over 9” of rain on March 25 - 26, and the red mud came from two places…the new pole plant in the industrial part cleared 11 acres along Chattasofka Creek, and there is a wonderful trailer park under construction behind the Chev dealer on 280 that supplied a huge amount of mud.  Creek may take all summer to clear.  Where’s ADEM??

Hmmmm....neither of them have sediment erosion control (orange silt fencing, hay bales, etc.) around their projects?  I'd be surprised as it is required by state law.  A call to ADEM would shut them down in a heart beat although the damage may already be done. But that would only impact the stream that is within the drainage area of these projects.  Our slough is definitely not and it is also brown.

Fortunately the silt will settle out with a good week or two of dry weather.  We just haven't had that yet this spring.

It is either naive or stupid to believe the entire lake is muddy becuase of those two projects.  I am sure your disdain for anything "trailer park" may have influenced you statement, but what did the new pole plant do to you?  As MM said, if you have evidence of violations report them to the proper authorities instead of whining here, where it does no good?

Did I say anything about “whole lake”?  I said Sandy Creek.  The pole plant has a grossly inadequate catch pond, and limited fencing along the bank of Chattasofka Creek which feeds into Sandy.  The trailer park is exactly what I said…a trailer park under construction.  Yes, there is sediment fencing, but inadequate for a 9 - 10” rain. The creek surrounding the whole park feeds into Sandy Creek also.  Go check out the trailer park, and you’ll see where a lot of the mud came from.
