After enjoying the lake on the Real Island side for about 20 years as a frequent guest at my in-law's place, I'm finally building my own place for my clan (wife & 4 boys) in the Sandy Creek/Smith Mtn area. I have tuned into this board recently and the neighborliness of the posters is indicative of the great folks that make Lake Martin home. While I plan to be a weekender with extended visits in the Summer, I look forward to being a part of the lake community and will check in on this board from time to time just to make sure I'm not missing out on any important viewpoints, etc.

By the way, have there been eagle sightings in Sandy Creek? I'm a bird lover from childhood.

Congratulations on building your own place on beautiful Lake Martin! I hope all goes well for you. There have been plenty of eagle sightings in the Sandy Creek area. Enjoy!!

This forum should be called the LMXF - Lake Martin Experts Forum, because these folks are experts on the lake.

IC,
Visit often and pay attention....don't let that ego get in the way of learning a few things about the lake and life!!

Welcome to one of the prettiest areas on the lake! The tricky entrance to the creek keeps the riff-raff out.... Sometines so quiet that you can go skinny dippin'.

I, too, like the fact that the mouth of Sandy Creek, viewed from the main lake channel, appears to be yet another dead-end slough. Let's not mention this any more lest the masses start venturing up the creek into our private waters.

My comment was genuine! I wasn't talking about myself. In terms of knowledge of the lake, I'm not even in the same ballpark as some of you guys!

I have found this forum to be extremely helpful in many different ways. Lots of good wisdom and knowledge available here. It really helps to get the best judgement of those who have been on the lake for years,as some of these have. They will also pull your leg occasionally, too!

IC,

As my boys are quick to say - My bad!! I wrongly assumed your post was directed against some of the wiser members of this forum whom I'll be quick to defend. Must have been that I'm still ticked at Pitt being only a 3 seed!

Sorry for the late post. Have been up enjoying the lake for the past 2 1/2 weeks!

Not only welcome to the lake and to Sandy Creek, but also Smith Mountain! If your new home is where I think it is, you are just down the street from us (Basement walls just completed?).
