I'm new to the lake. Our swim area has a very rocky bottom with sharp rocks that make it difficult to walk,. Has anyone had any luck with sand or small pebbles to create a swim area ?

I have put two loads (18 yards) in our swim area and have provided the neighbors on both sides of us with a very nice sandy swim area. Sadly, none of the sand stayed in our swim area. There may be a way to confine the sand to your area but I do not know what that way is.

That's a good one, feb.......especially after reading Part timer's post below about getting your leg pulled occasionally!

but it is a chore...and may be too late for this year...
first we picked up rocks for a whole winter
then I dropped sand...
it lasted 2 years cuz there wasnt as much wash
then did two more loads every two years
this year built some baffles from the wash side so it wont move as much, used 2X12
I have a shallow beach area now and at the end of the dock it is only 8ft at full pool...but great for little kids and non-swimmers...and about 130ft of shoreline..(didnt do the whole thing)
Hope this may help

My grandfather used pea gravel years ago. It's not quite as comfy as sand, but it doesn't wash away. And the pea gravel felt LOTS better than those sharp rocks.

Also, the Alabama Power reps say that pea gravel is good for "near shore bait fish" .....

Hope this helps...
