We had dinner at The Cove last Friday night and discovered that they are having quite a feud with some of their residential neighbors. The story I heard is that a couple of weeks ago The Cove had a music festival held in their adjacent pavillion area without seeking approval from the neighbors. Now to protest, the neighbors are leaving music on (very, very loud) at night to disrupt business. We certainly observed this and were quite disgusted with the method of civil disobedience!

There appeared to be no one home at the two residences we observed playing very loud music outside. They just set it to play all night I guess. I couldn't help but wonder what their other neighbors think of this practice. The method seems very misplaced to me. Surely there are more mature ways to handle this situation. I guess this is what happens when there are no zoning laws, noise ordinances, etc. Pitiful!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows more about this situation and when a resolution might (hopefully) be coming. Frankly, we have serious reservations about returning under the current scenario. It is just not conducive to a relaxing evening.

That is ridiculous. It seems as though many lake residents are sooooo against live music that they throw all sense and reason out the window when deciding how to deal with it. At least in the case of The Cove, the morons didnt file a law suit----yet. Hopefully, someone who is equally lacking in the sense category will show up and still the speakers of the noisy protestors.

obtained the best offer for the Cove lot and then first offered to sell it to the neighboring residents at that price.

One could not expect your neighbor to take less than the property is worth in order to prevent land use conflict.

But...that ship has sailed.

Stratman at Chuck's slough here again. HAHAHAHA!!

So if a marina or a restaurant/entertainment establishment...is in a NEIGHBORHOOD...and has loud music and doesn't consult with it's neighbors that is shares the community with....that's Ok huh?

But if WE counter with music blasting that establishment....all of a sudden we are morons huh? That's some really stupid crap you know!

Sigmapi......YOU'RE STILL AN IDIOT....AND ANYONE THAT THINKS THE WAY YOU DO IS AS WELL!

We have rights too....We live here...and our homes are here. Go to a night club to party....not our neighborhoods!!

I can blast Chuck's Marina anytime I want to...and you guys would not be able to hear yourselves attempt to do karaoke. But then...I'd be a moron just like the rest of you. Not something I care to be a part of.

Wake up and smell the B.S. you are spewing!!

Is anyone out there finally getting a taste of what we home owners put up with every single weekend? I sure hope so because it is SO obvious!

You people blast us and call it entertainment.

We blast you...and you get upset. WOW....go figure.

Remember...there is NO NOISE ORDINANCE....we can play that game too!

I find it hilarious how sensitive and indignant you BIG PARTIERS get when you get a dose of your own medicine!

Maybe it's about time we turned the tables on you and see how you like it!

Myself.....I've got a 4000watt system for when I play night clubs. Maybe I need to have a party soon.

So, Are you saying that it makes good sense to leave a home sound system cranked up to max volume while not at home for the purpose of disturbing restaurant patrons? Sounds moronic and childish to me. However, I am happy to see that you have gotten away from your ALL CAPS TIRADES. Now they just seem to be lower case tirades. But, hey, at least your anger medication is helping to some extent.

Looks like the growth at LM is starting to cause a wee bit of conflict. Too bad this couldn't be resolved in a neighborly way though.

This is why zoning laws and regulations are put in growing areas. It is probably just a few years away for the two counties around the lake.

You don't need zoning laws when you have a low density mostly rural community. Neighbors used to respect and depend on each other. Start packing 'em in tighter like what is going on around the lake and you will have conflict.

Change is a comin'

That's traditionally the way to handle sale of property in some areas. Kinda old timey but neighborly. My understanding is a little different though - Owner decides to sell, prices property and first offers the property to adjoining neighbors. Gives the neighbors some control over what happens to adjoining property. Not a bad idea.....

I stopped using caps because you babies go all upset and would have your little tantrums.

Hey....loud music is loud music!

What....do you think a disturbance can only come from us? That is rediculous!

You guys have been blasting us for several years now....and maybe it's time we start fighting fire with fire!!

You get upset because we would be disturbing your partying! Isn't that just hilarious!!

Wait til you get out of college....have a couple of kids and buy a house....and have to put up with people like yourself!
It will come back to you and bite you in the rear!!

So you think it is sane and mature to leave speakers blasting, aimed toward a restaurant? Im not talking about LISTENING to loud music, or producing loud music. I am talking about blasting it with the intent of disturbing. Sometimes, rational people need to take a look at intent. Intentions have alot to do with respect and consideration. I wasnt there, but I am sure noone showed up at the Cove with the intent to disturb others. However, the resident(s) with the speakers blaring had a clearly malicious intention. That being said, which was being more devient and disruptive?

Seems that some writing in about this are totally missing the point.

This is a childish, immature method of dealing with the situation. Period!!

This is not fair to other residential owners within earshot. What did they do to deserve this?

This is not fair to patrons of The Cove. What did they do?

Surely, a logical, rational mind can understand.

...the small grey house across the water from the cove. Almost put an offer on it before the cove was there. I did not have a warm feeling about it so I did'nt. That would have been a seroius bummer. Mainly because of the smell from the Cove's septic system. They really need to figure out a way to cope with that. Hope that crap (pardon the pun) is not seeping into the lake.

Not only the Cove, there are a lot of old places on the Lake that have septic problems. People run there washing machine and shower water into the woods where it will not be detected. I know, I have complained to no avail when I had my place. The EPA needs to get off their rear ends and do something about it.. I could go out in the morning to sit on the porch and see soap suds in the slough. Never did it, when I said something to the neighdor that was , he got pissed. When the wind was blowing a certain way ,smelled sewage. There was as many as 4 sites on one septic tank, and the drain fields were very close to the Lake.

Sigmapi....

I will agree with you on one point....The patrons did nothing to deserve the loud music they had to endure while at the Cove. I was one of those patrons on this past Saturday night and heard it myself.

But I will counter that with.....What did we lake dwellers do to deserve all the loud music directed at us that WE have to endure.....CONSTANTLY?

The problem is....The restaurant and marina owners DO...NOT...CARE!!
And neither do the patrons! When money $$$ is involved.....respect and consideration goes right out the door.

The bottom line is....When marina and restaurant owner throw their respect for their neighbors out the window.....they leave us few options to fight back. LOUD MUSIC AIMED AT THEM SEEMS FAIR....SINCE THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO US.

Why do you not think that the business are being unfair to us? That is one thing I do not understand.

Stratman,
I've got a 100w rig to add with yours... see if we can rattle some windows... [laffing] and have fun in the process.

Is this issue about businesses disturbing residential neighbors a reason for zoning? If the business was there first and someone builds a home near by, does the new home owner have any legit complaints? And the converse, should a business move into a residental neighborhood?

Hi Chazzman!!

I would be happy to have a beer with you and rattle some windows!!HAHA!!

The answer to your question.....NO....Chuck's was granted permission to be in our neighborhood back in the latter 1960's....AS A MARINA ONLY!

And it stayed that way until 1992 or 1993 when the present marina owner bought it.

He started off just running the marina...then asked we neighbors if it was OK if he put in a Pizzaria. We said...SURE...it would be great to have pizza here on the weekends and summer.
Then....He wanted to put a deck up for everyone to eat at.....again....we said no problem...that would be quite understandable. Then the draft beer came...and one day....he did karaoke. It was cool on a ONCE IN A WHILE BASIS. Most of we neighbors went down there and had fun.

NOW.....IT'S EVERY.....SINGLE .....WEEKEND!!

THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

BOTTOME LINE IS ......WE WERE HERE FIRST.....AND GRANTED PERMISSION FOR THE MARINA TO BE HERE.....NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

Possibly not Jim - They, like myself, are just happy we do not have the place you used to have on the Lake. Was it a better place than the APC lease lots that you put down? Did you acquire a new place on the Lake after your old place? Was the reason you got rid of your old place because of the neighbor(s) septic problems? Inquiring minds want to know.

It was a APC lot, great neighbors, the reason we sold the place was because it was a APC sub leased lot up for renewel in 2007.
