KNOWS who #1 is now. That was embarrassing. I still think USC would have score 40 pts against AU the way they played Tues nite.. Sorry.

P.S. Go Dawgs!

Turn the ball over about 5 times against a good team, make em go 5 or 8 yards for a score and things can get out of hand rather quickly.

no one will ever know. USC played an outstanding game and had a wonderful season.... so did Auburn.

Until there are playoffs, there will always be controversy. Maybe it is meant to be that way so countless people can waste time arguing with their extensive football analytical skills that always seem to be babbled with 3 parts emotion and 1 part reason.

Anyway, AU is still #1 in my poll because I’m the only voter. USC may be better or worse on any given day; we will never know because that day has not been given. Congratulations to both teams for a great year.

By this logic, if jlazc has Auburn #1 in his poll, then Auburn is the national champion.

Agree with all of that except, most of us argue with all 4 parts emotion.

I think that AU did every bit as much as USC did to prove that they did not deserve to be #1. Are we just supposed to ignore how close the Sugar Bowl was? (which AU thought it was to too good to be playing in) If AU is number 1 is VT number 2? Face it, USC is better. Do you need a playoff to see if Texas is better than Boise State? They do both have only 1 loss. Im sure that that is not necessary. Put your Tiger loyalty aside and pay attention.

Look numb-bolts. Auburn played its usual first half /three guarters ball game and then bored everyone to death with its don't lose game. Wingnut would not let the boys play. My opinion only I guess. If it had been UAT you would have been crying worse than Auburn fans. Auburn did nothing to sway votes. USC looked good. But they were not playing against Auburns defense and untill they have the +1 system we will never know who truely is #1.

Siggy, make you a deal. We'll put our Tiger loyalty aside as soon as you put your Tide bitterness aside. Every other major college sport, as well as pro sport, have a playoff to determine a "true" champion. That's how Jim Valvano's N.C. State squad beat a heavily favored "slamma-jamma" Houston basketball team, a heavily favored Green Bay team loses to Denver in the Super Bowl and the list goes on. It should be settled on the field. I would absolutely love to hear your take on the situation if the situation was reversed and your beloved Tide was in our situation. Methinks your tone would change drastically.

Oh just shut up. AU is lucky that there is no playoff. If there were, they would have to face the fact that they werent the best team in the nation. At 13-0, idiots like you can whimper, whine, and argue til your blue in the face that your beloved Tigers are the greatest team to ever touch a cow pasture (playing field). Fact is, you can call me "Siggy" which you seem to love doing, you can claim that my opinion stems from "Tide bitterness", you can worship the ground that your ebonics speaking backfield walks on, but you CANT pose with AU's 2004 National Title Trophy--regardless of what you claim. I am a huge SPORTS fan and yes my allegiance is to the Crimson & White. However, my opinions are valid regardless of what you may say to discredit them. If I cheered for the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and I said that AU didnt do what it needed to to get a split title would you think my opinion mattered more? Quit taking shots at ME because YOU are bitter at the situation.

Shut up, ebonics speaking backfield, cow pasture; anything else Siggy. Managed to incorporate "tough guy" image, racism and an insult to our pastures all in 1 post. That kind of rant will always further and add credence to your opinion. Keep up the good work. You are doing a whale of a job of keeping me entertained.

You validating my opinions (or not as the case seems to be) does nothing to deteriorate the rationale on which they were formed. I am happy to have entertained you, however, he who laughs last laughs best. I will be sure to give a chuckle for many years to come at AU's predicament and the valiant--yet pointless--"Great Barner Battle" that the AU fans are waging.

I'm not an AU fan, but any reasonable person , even you , "the best sports fan ever", has to see the logic of head to head competition to determine the nat'l champ. It makes no sense to rely on polls or computer programs. Until the morons running the show figure this out, any championship bowl game is just a charade.

OK, you are all right and my opinion sucks. Is that what you wanted to hear? College football, which is about 120 or so years old now, should model itself after the 40 year old NFL. We should wipe the slate clean in the middle of December and ignore mediocre seasons such as those of this year's St. Louis Rams (8-8). Those teams that DESERVE to be in the playoff will fight it out tooth and nail to see who the REAL champ is. I, however, ask this. . .who gets in the playoff? I know that the undefeated teams will, but where is the cutoff after that? What happens when there are 3 undefeated teams, four 1 loss teams, six 2 loss teams, and eight 3 loss teams? Which 2 or 3 loss teams should stay at home? When they are left out, wont it be fun to listen to them whine about how they should be given a chance regardless of their losses? Where is the cutoff? In the given situation, should they then get on LakeMartin. com and ask yall who should get to play? Now put some thought into this---lets be sure we remove ALL controversy from college football.

his quote on AU "And I’ve also nominated myself as People’s Sexiest Man Alive … In the spirit of the Auburn Tiger 2004 season, I’m declaring myself the national champion of college football. There will be rings, a ceremony, a logo, a parade, and a 25-year reunion with myself to reminisce about this national title winning season. I'm more than happy to split with USC since I didn’t get my chance to play against the mighty Trojans. Maybe I’m not an actual football team and I didn’t get any votes in either poll, but I don’t care. I want to feel good about myself, so woo-hoo … I am the 2004 national champion. Go ahead and declare yourself a national champion too. It’ll make your day."

Wow, wonder what he would of said about Alabama's claim to the National title in 1941. You know, the team that had 2 losses but was recognized by the esteemed Houlgate service as our nations # 1 team while the other 11 services, including the AP, gave the award to Minnesota. Much better material for funny guy Futiak.

Alabama and USC, both with one loss, split the national title.
USC's one loss - Arizona State.
Alabama's one loss - USC.

How does Alabama split a title with a team that beat them???

Thanks for all of the replies. Unfortunately you never answered any of my questions about the playoff scenario that I listed. LOL thanks for pointing out the national title issues. Do those cause a sting for you? They dont for me. Count whichever ones you want---I still think the total will be higher than any SEC competition.

2) Yes- You are correct. They should contact us at Lake Martin. com to determine playoff participants.
3) Wrong- No "sting" here. My personal sense of self-worth is not tied to the performance of any football team. There is a whole brave new world out there just waiting for you.

You dont know what aspects of this wonderful world I choose to partake in, nor the ones I dont. You present yourself as someone who is extremely irritated by the 2004 NCAA football scene and then claim that I am the one that is obsessed with it. In this brave new world you are referring to, others have a opinions that are warranted regardless of how little you like them. Maybe you should get used to that and learn to not lash out at everyone whose opinion is different than your own. Now, WITHOUT BEING RUDE, who should play in the playoffs in the situation I listed above?

I don't believe it was me that called anyone an idiot or threw out the race card, "ebonics speaking backfield", or insulted your playing field as being a "pasture". And it was you who said your opinions sucked; I simply agreed. As to who should have been in a playoff, should the NCAA ever decide it may be a good idea, it's quite simple; USC, Oklahoma, Auburn and Utah.

Why do so many NASCAR fans hate Jeff Gordon. Is it just because he is from California and doesn't fit the tobacco chewin, deer huntin, back yard barequein redneck stereotype of most NASCAR drivers? Before you attack me remember, I'm from the South and love it. You have to admit , that's the stereotype.

I agree 100%. I think basically he is hated because he was better than #8 in Earnhart's last few years. I happen to like the guy and, by the way Siggy, I was also a an Elliot fan.

NASCAR is quick to forget the fans that got them where they are today. As far as Jimmy`s good buddy Jeff, he has the personality of a nurses aid or hair dresser. Nascar is not a sport, it is a exhibition.

The best I ever seen was Curtis Turner, now in those days that was real Grand National racing, not the crap they do now. When Joe Lee Johnson won the 1st Charlotte World 600 in a Paul Mcduffie car I was there. The pay out was $19,000. In 1961 Paul got killed at Darlington when Bobby Johns ran through the pits. I was there. as Paul was a friend of mine and built my engines for my drag car. Joe Lee was leading, see it happen in the rear view mirror as he was leaving on pit road, pulled over DNF.

Yeah, purchased a 55 Chevrolet 210 that was owned by him in 63 when he left Nalley Chevrolet to go to Mercury, nick name was Dino Don. Kept that car about a year, never could get the bugs out of it, a nightmare. Sold it and got a 63 Covrotte split window.

Had one of his 425Hp 409 Belaire bubbleback coupes with 2 4bbl and a 456 rear end. Factory headers and all - same type he used to run at the strips. Would do 0-60 in around 4 sec but couldn't go around a curve. It got rubber in all 4... That's a muscle car. It was fun watching him run one up on the dyno though - if you had ear plugs.
