I was heading back from Opelika Sunday evening when my wife called and ask if I wanted to go by and pick up an order at Niffers. Sounded good and she said she would call it in.

When I arrived at Niffers they did not seem to have a call in for me. So I thought I would just re-order. I called my wife to see what she wanted for herself . She was mad as heck. Apparently, Nifferswas keeping their phone off the hook to avoid any call in orders. Everytime she tried calling, the line was busy. She got through once and the phone was placed down. She could hear everything going on in the restaurant but nobody would pick up to take here order.

As I relayed this to the lady now trying to take my order, the phone was indeed off the hook. The waitress placed it on the receiver, the minute it started ringing again, a cute little blond waitress walked by picked up the phone and placed it right down. The waitress taking my order and I just looked at her. The cute little waitress said they were not taking calls.

I am glad business is so good at Niffers that they refuse to take call in orders. They just lost me as a customer and I spend a good bit of money there througout the year.

geesh.

By the way, they were not busy at all when I was in on Sunday evening.

Amazing.

We've only been there once and could feel such an atmosphere. Takes some people longer to learn I guess. The food we ordered was awful and cheaply prepared. The world's not that hard to figure out....I guess it is for some people. Must be the AU fans that keep them in business!

Go Dawgs!

Not this Auburn fan. Been there once and had similar experience. I just keep driving north on 49 & pull off at Oskars.

Heh. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this, but seriously, I heard round bout a year ago it seems, that the niffers in Auburn was mostly a gay bar.... Now don't stone me yet, I've never been to the one in Auburn, and I am an Auburn fan, (god bless the crimson tide, though), but a few friends of mine thought rather strangly of me when I told them that I had went to niffers, until they found that I was talking about the one there at the lake. Related incidents? Probally not, but it's dang sure funny....heheheh

I've got money that says the forum police will delete this post within a day....maybe the whole thread.
While we're on the topic of bashing Niffers, the wings were terrible the last time I went. Then again I'm spoiled with the best wings in the world at Taco Mac in atlanta . Nothing else compares.

Niffers in Auburn is a college rest/bar. $1 beer tends to do that. I have been there many time and enjoy the "sights"

Never had a bad meal at Niffers. If there is a problem, all you have to do is tell Keely, Lynn or one of the servers, and it will be fixed. Good food, always good service, frequent meal cards and, yes, $1 beer. Beats Oscars and The Cove hands down.

I agree too... Sometimes the food can be uneven but not bad and they will fix it if you ask. $ beer is mighty nice. If you have 2-3 beers you can save the price of the food! I think the rule here is KISS. Don't challenge the kitchen too much.... but that's the deal most everywhere around the lake.

The prices of food here are not going to attract top quality chefs. I think that's why Cecils works so well. The menu is not that complicated and the kitchen stays within their abilities.

Niffers has a sign that reads "partial parties will not be seated when we are busy". This means to me that they do not want people sitting around waiting for someone else. Such a person is using a needed table and is wasting space. The no "phone-in-orders" works the same way.

If you go into a restuarant, take the time to wait to be seated, while all you see is the wait staff answering phones and taking orders for walk-up orders, what are you to think? I expect to be served before someone who just calls up and is not going to leave a tip.

The waiters and waitresses and told to wait on the people who are there. They can only work on a limited number. If you arrive at Niffers and the line is long, you will be told that you may have to wait for an hour. Wouldn't you resent a person who walks up to the front of the line and requests a take out bag?

It is just a curtesy that Niffers excepts carry out orders when possible. It is not always possible. If a person wants a carry out on a busy night, just go farther north on 49 and you will hit a McDonald's.
