again...here are my questions, again:

So, what's new on the lake:
1. Big clearing up by Oskar's - whats that all about?
2. The Harbor still looks horrible - they ever going to fix that eye sore?
3. Heard Scrushy is still buying more development property on the lake - where is that?
4. Where are good places to eat on the lake that you can get to by boat?
5. Any good places to take the kids to rope swing with just the moms (in other words we don't have to get in and help)?

I thought these were very good questions too. I am also waiting on someone to respond. SURELY someone that lives on the lake reads this thing. I love see what's up around the lake, and this seems to be the spot to do it.

OH And to let everyone know, my daughter's "Senior" friend mentioned to me today that tomorrow is "Senior Skip Day". (05-05-05) Everyone better watch out, Lake Martin seems to be the place they're headed!!
Mix this with the "Tree Retreval Guy" (from other post) and things might get a little hairy! :)

I like Chuck's and The Dockside Grill. Sinclairs is nice at night (kinda pricy though). Does this post make you feel better? I dont know about the rest of your questions.

Sorry to ignore you!
To answer your questions:

1. I have no idea but would love to know
2. Hope so!
3. Sure hope it's not near me....
4. Only been to Chucks on the boat
5. See posts below about the rope swing at Elkahatchee Creek.

Part of the clearing across from Oskar's will be new business selling sod and tropical trees. Not to early to put in an order for either. Good folks to do business with. Chuck's, Dockside Grill and Sinclair's are all good places to eat that you can reach by boat. If you can get under the bridge at hwy. 49 you can dock at the Cove. North end of the lake you've got Lake Hill and I heard that Bay Pines is going to start cooking again. (not sure about that) Also read that you can dock at the marina and a shuttle will take you to the clubhouse for dinner at Stillwaters. Anyone know of any other places to go by boat?

LL,

Do you know if the Oscar's clearing is indeed for a sod farm, or will it be a nursery type establishment? I would be concerned with the potential excessive fertilizer/chemical run-off associated with a true farm. Havoc for the lake ecosystem. Surely there is some form of EPA standard for sod farms within so many miles of lake shoreline. They have standards for everything else.

I can't imagine it being a "sod farm". I could see a nursery SELLING sod and other plants. You are right about the fertilizer runoff, it would be a problem for all involved and I would think people that lived in that area would throw a walleyed fit. The only nursery I have seen around is on Hwy 9, and their stuff looks good until you stop and get a closer look.

I wish someone would open a good "drive up burger/hotdog place" on the lake. (A place like Chris', downtown Montgomery.) Chuck's has great pizza, but something cheaper and differant would be nice.
Doesn't someone want to open up a place?..... You build, we will follow!

:)

There is a small nursery at the corner of 49 & 50. Prices are outrageous.

It will be nursery type. The sod farm is south of Montgomery so no worry about chemical run-off. Their best advertisement is the beautiful lawn across from Chuck's. Can't miss it, look for the red roof. The tropical trees are ones that are capable of growing in this area and can withstand what cold we have here.

I have been by that house by boat and by road. Someone told me how much those palm trees cost. Man, those people spent a boatload on that property and really don't even have a decent view of the lake. Oh well, whatever floats your boat.

I love the red roof house! When we tear our shack down, THAT is the look I want! The palm trees make the place, and "yes" they are VERY pricey. I'll be heading south for my palms. The prices are a lot better closer to the beaches.

Whether you like it or not, everyone knows where this home is. It is a Lake Martin landmark. I like it in the winter but the red roof looks hot and uninviting in the summer. But no one can fault the landscaping.

I think it has a very clean look. Freshly painted, freshly mowed look about it. Winter and summer. Too bad some folks around the lake don't take notes. Some places look like they don't give a beans.
