I need an explanation from anyone who cares to delve into the subject with knowledge. Please, tell me why the hideous wakeboard boats tend to congregate in the quiet, calm sloughs when big waves and rough water is what they create. Why not take it out to the big water where those aspects come natural? I only saw two boats last weekend and they were both wakeboard boats that commenced to destroy the water with their mammoth waves. Not to mention the shoreline. Does this just make TOO much sense?

My guess would be that the people on the board are just learning and need the calm water to get started. Once they are good at the sport they will tackle the big waves.

I can tell you are annoyed. I would be too. But buying a place in a wide slough or on the open lake is like buying a house near an airport. You had to know it would be busy. Like it or not, the lake is open to the public.

Just wait until one of the Fountain boats comes by at 90+ then the other boats won't seem so bad.

I want to see a Fountain going 90! I did'nt think a Fountain would go that fast.

Sure they will, the 42' Fountain Lightning will get up over 110 and the 47' Lightning will get up to 95 or so. Now the Fountain F2's and Poker Run's are another story, they will cruise in the triple digits.

I just don't get it. Even if a Fountain could go 90, who would want to? You would feel beat up by the end of the day. Sailing is the way to go. Quiet, clean, simple and actually requires skill and intelligence. Never heard one complaint about a sailboat coming into a residential cove.

A Fountain can go well over 90 MPH, they are the Cadilac of offshore boats. They are a lot of imitators out there. Fomulas and Scarabs are close, but nothing like a Fountain, record holders.

Maybe I have just not noticed any fountains running that fast on the lake. I have seen many at poker runs haulin' booty. But not on the lake. Cadillac of power boats, I dont believe that for one minute. And, come to think of it, I never have been able to hear a sail boat.

I completely agree with you on Fountains not being the Cadallic of the water. Im thinking more along the lines of a Porsche of the water. On the other hand certain Cat manufactures are the undisputed Ferraris. Fountains are by far the best and fastest of their type. I have personal experience of Fountains at well over 100 mph on this lake and can safely say that they are the best v bottom boat made. It is amazing to have a place like this to be able to take a machine out and run 100 mph and be in complete control.

What kinda boat ended up in the trees on the island just east of the 280 bridge a few years back. As I recall, Lake Martin Dock Company had to be contracted to retrieve it. I heard that it still was in pretty good shape despite the launch.

I think that was a fountain..... BUT a cat would have climbed through the trees,(Like Cats do) and no contractor neccesary. (just being funny)

I think it was a fountain with P-57 on the side of it. I remember seeing the boat prior to the accident but not after---unless it was painted differently.

Does anyone know what size the boat was?

It wasnt what I would consider a larger powerboat. I'd say it was 32' at most.

Never heard of a CAT BOAT. Must be a off brand like a PYTON, made in a barn in Buford Ga. KInda like a YUGO in the auto line.

Okay,.... first I will apoligize, then I will explain. WE were in a slough pulling my very little 13 year old (about 5" and 90 pounds). He's new to the sport of wakeboarding, loves the water though, and wants so bad to learn how to do the flips like the big guys are doing. He has mastered the 360, but he just isn't brave enough to try anything more. He tried starting off from the peir, but all he ended up with was a A$$ full of splinters! "Don't laugh, we did enough of that this weekend".
As soon as he gets a little more as ease, we'll leave your slough.

Here's the deal - the best wakeboarding is done on smooth water outside a big wake. Smooth water makes for faster/tighter turns and softer landings after launching off the wake.

Wakeboarders will always seek sloughs with a glass surface and enough room to make a run... and God Bless'm (it's true fun).

"CAT BOAT" is just a reference to Catamaran/Tunnel boat. But I think you already know that, and I think you are probably a fountain owner or fan. I like fountains o.k. but I am not a fan of production boats. I had a buddy with a python once, it ran and looked pretty well for a barn boat. Your reference to Yugo in the autoline........ far from it. What do you ride on the lake?

Oddossey and a Wellcraft Scarab, depending on the mood.

I use to own a Scarab...... loved it. It was a P-29 with small blocks.

when yall are done with this arguement, lets meet up and put few five dollar bills on a pier. . .we can then stand behind a line and pee on them and see who can push them off into the lake. . .then we could truly establish who has p*ssed away the most money.

Never figured out the thrill of driving an OFFSHORE boat in the lake. Kinda like driving a 4WD Ford F-250 in Atlanta. The kick in driving an offshore boat is launching it over rollers about five miles offshore--who could possbily get off running in smooth water? Bass boats are for lakes; not Fountains.

Makes ya wonder if these offshore boat guys need sexual reassurance.

Look Osama,
if you feel you need to vent, go right ahead, but when you start all the reassurance crap, you take it to a completely different level. Funny thing is.........you are the one with the sexual reassurance on your mind so it must be an issue with yourself!!!

Also, where do you get all this "offshore" talk? I mean just tell us what the problem is.........I mean for real, why do you come on here and dish some peoples boat and what they prefer to drive?

Five dollar bills??????? Heck no, if we are going to do that, why not use $100 bills sinse we are p%ssin away money!

Come to think of it..... I have never figured out the thrill of driving a bass boat, sawing on the wheel to keep control at 70 mph. Or for that matter, riding a pontoon boat from Kowliga to Blue Creek and it taking all day long. Sexual reassurance???? well, I see a lot more hotties sporting bikinis on offshore boats than anything. That alone is assurance enough.

I disagree. Being that their are alot more cruisers and ski boats and pontoons on the lake, i tend to see more hot chicks on these kinds of boats. I do see more silicone on the offshores, but until they invent a silicone face, some of these gals are still going to be fugly. I also rarely see any 20 something girls on the offshore boats. Most of them look like they are making an effort to be 20 something, but being born in the 60s makes those numbers not match up. I dont agree with the sexual reassurance talk, however. You have your mega powered boats because you like them not because you have a small wiener or b/c you have trouble getting some. But dont go claiming that the girls on these boats are hotter, because it just isnt so.

Seems like I hit a nerve. Look, I've lived and boated on the Gulf Coast for thirty years. Got a good laugh a couple of years ago watching a go-fast boat (38 footer) running about 55-60 come to a dead stop in about 100 feet when he failed to realize the water was a tad shallow. Not only did he get stuck in the mud, he raised his outdrives and gunned the engines, filling them with mud and ruining both--he did shoot up a nice rooster tail of black mud until he destroyed the engines.

When he decided to get out of the boat he stood in knee deep mud and had to wait for high tide to be towed away. All the cuties were really inpressed. By the way, it was the owner's first venture into salt water--he was a lake go-fast wonder.

Believe it or not, I love the sound of these boats; love riding in one in waves, but just don't see their purpose on the lake. Don't get your feelings hurt--just my opinon.

Only 9 years huh? 9 years ago I was about to start my first job, hadnt gotten my second tank of gas in my first truck, and was still wishing i could hurry up and be a grown up. Looking back. . .i sure was foolish. LOL. Once again, I am sure your wife is lovely.
