We are planning to buy a brand new pontoon boat. We have looked in to san pan, harris, bennington, and aqua patio. From what we have learned, I think we want a three toon one. We are leaning towards a harris from blue creek. Could anyone give their opinions of this brand and the others. As well as the service at blue creek?

Save yourself a lot of money and heartache, go see Marc Carboni at Carboni Marine in Tallessee, on of the nicest guys you will ever want to do business with. Straight as a arrow. Sells Odossey, all types, best boat for the money.

I checked with Blue Chreek, Russel Marinas, Carboni gave me the most for the money, After I purchased the boat, had a couple of minor problems with it, Marc and Donnia, his wife came to the lake, pulled it out of the water , pulled it to their shop, fixed the problems, brought it back to the lake,at no cost to me. In September came and winterized it and put it in the boathouse. After I sold my place in 2003, I still get a phone call ever so often from Marc wanting to know how my wife and I are doing, This guy and his wife are first class people, no doubt about it.

I agree 100% with you about Marc and Donna. He does service work for me and several of my friends. He'll do whatever he can to help you out if you are in a bind and will give you a great deal on a boat. You can't go wrong with Marc.

Just my opinion: Do not buy an underpowered boat. Unless you are not an explorer and stay close to home you need 100+ HP to get you out of harms way if you get caught out in a storm.

LM is a real big lake and if you like running down to Chucks or Sinclairs etc you might want an I/O or one of those 4 stroke Outboards up to say 150 HP. Tri-toon adds stability and speed. Yamaha has performance reports on various pontoon boats- speed fuel consumption etc.

Drive it first!

See below....

Good Luck!

Blue Creek did not impress me at all, not customer friendly at all. Way overpriced,

Have not been in there in about 3 years, this was in past years prior to that, learned my lesson and have not darkened their doors since and do not plan to. To many other places around the lake that appreciate my business. Last time I was there, ready to buy a pontoon that day, cash in hand, these folk`s could have cared less. Went to Carboni, showed me and wife what he had, made the deal withen thirty minutes, bought a comparable pontoon and motor , saved about 6 grand ,he trailered the boat to my place on the lake the next A.M. , Put it in the water ,gave me instructions, as I was not familar with pontoons having a Scarab also. Had to order a special trailer for it with a slide in tongue, which he kept on his lot till Sept, at no charge. Came up in Sept., pulled the boat out, with the new trailer, winterized it,put it in the boathouse at no charge, except the cost for the new trailer .Donna called me the next March, told me a few things needed to be fixed before the warranty ran out, Marc came to the lake, pulled the boat to Tallasse, fixed everything and then some, at no charge. Brought it back, put in the boathouse. Sorry I have strung this out, but I cannot say enough about this guy and his family.

Can't speak about pontoon boats, but can give a short story about Blue Creeek Marina. I change my own oil in the outdrive foot and stopped by Blue Creek last spring to buy Mercury oil. They wanted $12.95/ qt.--the guy behind the parts counter told me they would change the oil FOR me for around $36.95. The outdrive holds three quarts--Do you think they wanted to get their hands on my boat so they could really stick it to me? Better look over your shoulder if you go there. By the way, bought the oil from Russel for $8.95 --and you know how expensive they are.

I'm sure the Carboni's are great folks, but the Odossey is almost at the bottom of the list of major manufacturers when it comes to value (according to JD Power)......and I have found JD Power to be very accurate. I will take value over price anyday. I'd be (and am) looking at the Bennington and the Harris.

Jim, I agree with your father’s quote 100%! That is why I shop for value, and not price. Here are some examples.

I have a 1989 BMW that is still going strong and drives better than most new cars......could of purchased several others for less, but I'm sure I'd be on my 3rd or 4th by now to get the same ride and enjoyment, and I would have spent far more.

I have a 1985 John Deere Lawn tractor. Still going strong. My neighbor has had 2 Craftsman and a Murray (that’s on its last leg) in the same time frame; My JD cost double new, but I have spent far less on equipment and repairs.

I've had similar experiences with boats, chain saws, furniture, homes, stocks, property, building material, and more.

If a person can get a good price on the best products, they won't be sorry.....assuming they take care of what they have. If you do your homework, you can enjoy high quality and it will not cost more.

also bought a brand new manitou. great boat. mitchell marine could not hold a candle to the price we got in georgia. he is way over, he said he did not know how the dealer in ga. could sell it at the price we got it. might be worth the trip, or a call at least. mitchell marine has to service any problems you might have, so it is a win/win situation. good luck, i'm a go fast boater, but love the pontoon too!!!

Thank you for sharing your opinion on buying an underpowered boat. I agree that it's important to do your research and make sure you get a boat with enough horsepower to handle the conditions you might encounter. Safety should always be a top priority.

It's also a good idea to test drive a boat before making a purchase. This can give you a better sense of how it handles on the water and whether it meets your needs and expectations.

Thanks for the advice and good luck to you as well!
