I am considering purchasing a 2005 Caravelle Interceptor 212 . Just wondering if any other posters here own or have any experience with these boats. If so are you pleased with it as far as quality and performance? This is a 21ft boat I am considering and I am concerned about how it handles chop typical of our weekends here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. In case you could not guess by my alias name I will be purchasing with the switchable exhaust, but promise to turn it off in the sloughs (wink).

I had a 232 Interceptor a few years back. It was a good all-around boat for the lake.

I am not the smartest person in the world but I don't think he is talking about a cargo ship. If you have ever been to the lake, I am sure you have seen V-8 boats with through hull exhaust.

I have had a Caravelle 242 bowrider for 3 years. I had initial problems with the engine ( a 350 mag ) they had the wrong fuel pump on and i experienced hesitation at top speed. Additionally I had some small problems with minor stuff like the Radio. Overall the boat has been great. However if bought this boat again, i would get a bigger engine.

Sorry for the misspelling, alias has been updated to" Luv Loud Boats". The boat does have through hull exhaust, 350 Injected V8.

Some friends of ours bought a 212 about a month ago, and we took it Lake Martin on a busy weekend for the first outing. The power was impressive; the ride was not. I don't know if if's the long bow or what, but just a little chop was enough to beat us to death. We just couldn't seem to get it trimmed to reduce the bounce. My boat is 19' and considerably lighter (and a good bit oder), but it rides much better in the waves that are typical in open water at Martin.

now, there is a mature and well rounded statement! With a comeback like that, I may have to give more credit to what Rick said.........

This "ros" fella is one bringing up testosterone.....not me, and I think that he is being the immature one. I mean really, come on....what does a dad gum boat have to do with testosterone??? I made no statements to him whatsoever, I simply asked him a question.

You can give credit to whomever you chose but the fact of the matter is that he is the one coming on here and heckling others about their manhood by what kind of boat they drive.

I'm not saying I gave his statement much credit, just more when compared to yours. Sorry, but the "compare" thing just reminded me of my boys when they were going through puberty....and my own "manly" teenage years.

When it comes to what you drive, I agree it means nothing other than what trips your trigger. I have many toys for my many moods, and I enjoy driving just about anything that moves. Its all about fun and excitment for me ...........Because my wife won't let me pick up chicks, and if you start comparing things, there will always be someone with something bigger.

Cheers.

I'm still trying to sell my husbands 2003 Fatboy if anyone is looking for something LOUD. I've dropped the price, but it's as low as I can go.
Anyone interested? I have pictures I can email, couldn't figure out how to put a picture in my classified ad.

I almost bought one in '03 after I sold my Road King Classic. I don't mean to be rude, but I had it priced with fuel inection, high performance chip, and high performance pipes. The price new with warranty was a bit less than what you are asking; Average retail for an '03 FLSTFI with high-performance exhaust and chrome engine guards is only about 16.5K; other added chrome will bring that up a littte.

I hope you get what you want, but it may not be a realistic figure. I realize many dealers add big upcharges, but it isn't hard to find your way around those if you know where to look. You may be able to get your price by having a dealer sell it for you (they offer direct financing, which helps) but then you have to pay them a fee (I have sold 2 that way). Anyway, good luck with it.

My husband added extra chrome, etc. I saw the invoice, it was bought (after the extra's) at $25,000.
Thanks for the info about a dealer selling it. I will have him check on that.
haha If Harley made a wave runner, I'd trade! hahaha

A lot of Homos own these type of boats to troll in.

Yes, it is very easy to drive the price way up with chrome. Given the information in your add, they still charged a few thousand+ above suggested retail.....that was (and still is) typical in some markets. It's hard to get that premium back unless a dealer is doing the resale. If your dealer is in a market where they can still sell at that premium, it may be worth their fee to have them sell it. Stone Mountain Harley in Atlanta sold 2 for me for a flat rate of $900 and they did get a premium price. That was a few years ago though, and demand has dropped some with higher production levels at the factory; the fact that it’s an anniversary model may help.

Loud exhaust is one thing but safety is another. I know of at least two cases in the last few years on Lake Martin where loud boats were involved in accidents that caused two deaths. One was at night when a loud V-8 powered boat was approaching a dock where teenagers were swimming. Of course the driver could not hear the screams of the people in the water and the one in the water with the life preserver on was the one the boat hit. The others were able to dive under water to avoid the loud boat. Of course the teenagers should not have been swimming at 1:00 in the morning, but had it not been a loud boat, the other person would probably still be alive.

The other case, as I recall, was a loud boat that rear ended a pontoon boat at the edge of night. The pontoon boat driver was thrown from the boat and was found two days later. I'm not sure, but I suspect the people on the pontoon boat were very vocal before the impact occurred. Again, the boat driver probably would have heard the other people had it not been for the macho noisy boat.

Anyway, enough said.

Give that one a break. Accidents happen. I have heard of many more deaths in bass boats.

longtimelaker, you are completely incorrect with your post about the "loud boat" running over the kid with the life jacket at 1:00. It was a complete accident and had nothing to do with the boat being loud. By the way the boat that ran over the kid was an inboard ski boat not a loud "through hull exhaust" performance boat. Plus it happened in the mid 90's.

Longtimelaker, the accident you speak of when the "loud boat" ran up the back of the pontoon boat is also incorrect. I was at that scene about 5 minutes after the accident that evening, and, the driver of the powerboat is a friend of mine. The driver is a respectable person. It was an accident. The boat was not a very loud boat and noise had nothing to do with it.. However, most night time accidents happen because of pi$$ poor navagational lighting technology that we use today, the same stuff thats been around for 75 years. Unless you are simply idling around, it's very hard to see 90% of the boats on the water because of background clutter, lighting on docks and other distractions. Think about it this way..... we are all out there navagating the lake, in the dark, depending on a .15 cent bow or stern lightbulb to let us know there is another boat nearby, or let others know we are there. Try that with a car on the interstate! At least some put strobes and L.E.D. lights on to make themselves safer and more visible. Sorry to vent on this subject, but it just ticks me off. Admit it, it's hard to see other boats in the dark, requires your UNDIVIDED attention and is difficult at best. What we need is better navagation lights. Yall be safe!

Saturday night, I saw (from my dock) a pontoon boat pass with a strobe light on the backend. I had never seen that before, and thought it was a GREAT thing! It was very visible in the dark. I have often wondered myself why the lights on the back of a boat are so small and white anyway. You would think they might be yellow and flashing (for caution).
Who thought to put such a small light in the back anyway,..... a MAN?
(sorry,.... couldn't help myself!) :-)
Where do you get those strobe lights? We've only ventured out once at night, on the 4th last year. Scared the wa-zookie out of me, so I doubt it will ever happen again. But wouldn't mind having one for the disco effect!

really has less to do with "loudness" and everything to do with speed. Given the lack of vision , and I have been out at night, why would one go fast enough to cause that kind of damage, or in this case death, at night.
I can assure you I cut the throttle way back at night and, quite frankly, don't enjoy night rides because of thre level of stress they create.

I agree with you totally. But, i dont see any real excessive speeding at night. Maybe a few running about 20-30 mph maybe. I usually go just fast enough to stay on plan. Good point though

You are right Cat Boat. Most of my friends are performance boat owners. I am, and can speak for most everyone, extremely cautious at night. It has nothing to do with "loud" LongTimeLaker. I am sick and tired of guys like you that don't have a clue discussing "loud boats". We spend twice the money and time on equipment for safe operation than anyone else.
