It's a shame that either team had to lose this one!

At Auburn, they say that GA is a well respected opponent and playing the bulldogs is like playing your brother.

Playing Alabama, though, is like playing your ex-wife!

Was able to attend the game. One of the best I have seen in a while. Aromashudu (try Aroma and then say Shu-Do) fumbles into the in zone, and unlike Tennessee against Alabama, Taylor recovers inches from the back line. That is how close the game was.

As an Auburn fan, the football gods smiled on us Saturday. Do they just have to frown on us this Saturday?

I had wondered about the fourthdown fumble rule concerning "if" the ball had passed through the endzone instead of being recovered by Taylor. Which rule would have applied? A great game and well played by both teams. Now, I hope the football gods smile on us against bammer! Waaaaaaaaaar! EEEEEEEEEEEEEAGLE!!!!!!!!

If the ball had gone out of the end zone or been recovered by Georgia, it would have been a touchback: Georgia ball on the 20.

That's what I thought but I didn't know the fourthdown rule depended on what happened after the fumble or the fumble rule was called at the point of the fumble. Anyway, " WHEW "!

I had read some Georgia writer stating that Aromashodu had touched the ball while either touching the pylon or standing on the endzone side marker. I had recorded the game and have since watched the replay dozens of times. He only touched the ball once while he was in mid-stride--neither foot touching anything that would have triggered a touchback. Oddly enough, it was that one touch that appeared to alter
the course of the ball just enough to keep it from going out through the side of the end zone. It actually appeared that he was intentionally guiding the ball back into the end zone although, more likely, just trying to regain possession. Another strange thing about that 4th down rule is that
the ball carrier who fumbles is eligible to recover even if the ball is advanced forward. No doubt that, without Courtney being johnny-on-the-spot, Georgia wins that game.

The rule should be changed to apply only to those situations where the
ball has not been advanced across the first down mark....worked kinda nice for AU Sat. nite, however!

We live in Newnan. The Atlanta paper stated that in the 109 (or is it 119?) years of playing each other that even though Auburn has beaten Georgia by five games, they have only beaten Georgia by 2 total points.

Interesting, I thought.
