heartfelt condolences; you and your family are in our prayers. I wouldn't wish a year like that on anyone.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, pick up a copy of the newest Plain Talker, and read BAJ's latest column.

P.S.-- After what they did, I'll never read Lake Martin Living again. I look forward to seeing the whole story published, so I can hate them even more.

WSMS, can you give us a link, there are a lot of plain talkers out there?

The Plain Talker I mean is the magazine that comes out each month (not Lake Martin Living or Lake Magazine; the other one.) I don't think they have a website, though I wish they did; it's sometimes hard to find the latest issue.

But living in Georgia, how could we get it or see it? Can you summarize?

I would guess that the best way for an out-of-towner to get a copy would be to call 256-825-7707; I don't see any subscription info listed, so I don't know that you can subscribe, or what it would cost if you could. They also have an email address for submitting editorials: editor@theplaintalker.com; I suppose you could use this to ask about subscribing, etc.

You really should read the article; I personally think Growing Up was a highlight of lake life, and I'm glad to see it back. But I'll summarize quickly, if you promise to try to read the whole thing :-) :

In short, BAJ had a bad year. His cabin was bulldozed, his cat died, his mother died, he lost the Lake Martin Living job because they thought it was OK to write things and put his name on them, his wife's best friend died, and days before Christmas his dog died. (This is in chronological order; I'm sure the order of importance would be different.) The gist of the story is how he never was much of a celebrator on New Year's Eve, but he'll be happy to say "Good Riddance" to 2005.

Obviously, my one paragaraph can't do justice to his 1,000 words. Reading the story, I really felt for the guy; he's done so much for us over the years, and I truly wanted to do something for him. But all I can do is offer prayers, so I hope it helps.

What a tough year. I have enjoyed his writing too. I wish him a great 2006...

for the information and our prayers will go out for BAJ. 2005 was not my best year either, but I still have many reasons to be thankful. I hope 2006 is better for everyone......even if you had a great 2005!

I can relate. After I had a beer to wave goodbye to '05 I peed in the bottle.
It can only get better.
