Hey everyone,

This is my first post on the lake Martin Forum. My wife and I purchased our first lake home on Lake Martin in August 05 and we just wanted to introduce ourselves. We (like Roswell Ric) are from the Roswell/Dunwoody area of Atlanta (yes . . . another one). We purchased our home on the "small water" side of Hwy 49 near lake side marina. I have been hearing rumors that they are talking about raising the Hwy 49 bridge so larger boats could get under it. I wanted to know if anyone has heard if this is true or not?

I like the bridge being low as it helps keep all of those monster boats out of our little corner of the world. But now with Roswell Ric looking at a 105 x 19ft houseboat . . . I wouldn't mind having him over to see it as this is bigger than our lake house. Maybe they should raise the bridge for him. We only have 2 little jet ski's for now so he probably wouldn't even notice if I tied up to him?

I will be at the boatshow on Saturday. Is anyone else planning on going? Is there a "Lake Martin Group" flag or something that we can look for?

Thanks for the information . . .

Welcome New Home Owener and Forum Member. Any Friend & Neighbor of RR is good to have on the Forum. Maybe, you can help keep him under control. (LOL)

Congrats on buying a lake house...and for being smart enough to buy on the east side of the bridge! We are a few sloughs east of you....

Don't worry about the bridge...those are stupid rumors that have no basis. Think about it. This is Ala DOT we're talking about. What good could come from them spending that kind of money replacing a perfectly good bridge? We're safe until one of those monster sea boats run into the bridge and take it out!

Gonna be there tonight...if you see smoke from the east don't worry...it's just us doing the shoreline bonfire thing!

How much water do you have east of 49. I have never been over there. Also, how big a boat can you get under the bridge?

We're down about 10' right now (just kidding). We are on relatively deep water along our shore line (7' at the sea wall). The water ended up pushing out about 30'-40'' from the shore.

I don't know the height of the 49 bridge at full pool versus low, but I know you can get you average family sized boat/pontoon under it. I know that the bigger 3 pontoon pontoon boats (I think I said that right) have a hard time getting under and other boats have to put their bimini down. Typically, 2 pontoon boats, ski boats, and smaller cruisers can get through un-scratched.

I'll put the bimini down, gas her up and make that my first excersion this year when the water comes up. I did'nt know my boat would get under the bridge.

Lamont:

Have been under the bridge numerous times at full poll in a pontoon.

Have to stop short of bridge, drop bimini, then kneel down on the floor of the pontoon and use your hands on the bridge trusses to push yourself under the bridge.

Kids think it is a lot of fun.

Just make sure you raise your bimini after you stand back up. LOL

Negatory. The last thing my kids need to see is me with my bimini down. Guess I'll stay on the west side of the bridge.
